Maryland should separate the Teen and Miss competitions. Many of the teens at our state pageant are unprepared for a National level experience, and this includes the eventual winners. They need more TIME to prepare for Nationals. Look at the difference between crowning and giving up the title a year later, the TIME spent being a title holder is the difference. Hold the teen pageant earlier in the year, let them grow a bit. Think how much better their experience could be and the interest that might be gained for the program. -- Miss Maryland Talk Board

But we can't take that level of thinking for granted. With the teen pageant happening in August and the Miss Pageant in September, more than 2 months prep time would be beneficial to all.
