There is a modern form of it. Bnet has a Gnosticism board and AJRoberti is a wonderful poster who really educates all of us learning about it. I am just learning about it myself.

One of the more famous present day Gnostics is Sylvia Browne. I read one of her books years ago without really catching that she was Gnostic. It probably just was not important to me at the time so went straight over my head. However, I recently found out after reading her book for Gnossis' Bnet Seeker thread.

There are great variances or schools of thought in Gnosticism but basically it is a religion of seekers who believe that God does communicate directly with all individuals and each of us will be led by God to fulfill a life script that we wrote before we were born. It is a very loving and positive faith that "borrows" from all of the major religions. For instance, they have meditation from the Eastern religions, nature sprites from the wiccan beliefs, bits of Shamanism, etx. Sylvia Browne's church is Christian based but they try to emulate the religion Christ followed during his lifetime and not what was created in his name following his death. I have found it to be intriguing and I have tried a couple of Sylvia Browne's exercises in her books (believe me, I am very skepticle about stuff like that and have never experienced any psychic phenomena.) and had some interesting results. The experiences were so strange that I find it almost embarrassing.

Sylvia Browne is not dogmatic. She preaches that you take what you can use from her teachings and leave the rest which I find to be a very healthy approach. I am a bit like Gnossis and his regression experience. I just don't know what to think about it all. I am still very much the seeker. However, Gnosticism encourages seeking--without forcing a particular way to go about it.
