Ein Mensch, dem's ziemlich dreckig geht,
hört täglich doch, von früh bis spät,
dass ihm das Schicksal viel noch gönnte
und er im Grunde froh sein könnte;
Dass, angesichts manch schwererer Bürde
noch der und jener froh sein würde;
Dass, falls man etwas tiefer schürfte,
er eigentlich noch froh sein dürfte;
Dass, wenn genau man's nehmen wollte,
er, statt zu jammern, froh sein sollte;
Dass, wenn er andrer Sorgen wüsste,
er überhaupt noch froh sein müsste.
Der Mensch, er hört das mit Verdruss,
denn unfroh bleibt, wer froh sein muss.
