The massive harridan twitched. Something univited was within twenty feet of her children. Without even turning around, she knew exactly where Mirage was. In moments, the enormous Siberian whirled about and pounced, landing with a crash right in front of the kitten. Substantial jaws slashed mere inches away. Talk about in-your-face.

She snarled, fur spiking around a thick neck.

Do you have a death wish? Because I have some darling little furballs with claws and teeth nearby, and they already love the taste of cat meat.

Her eyes narrowed, and she hunched to Mirage's level.
