Well speaking with a little background in medicine, I think your point about gangrene is correct, but I don't think someone would die from a wound to the ankle INSTANTLY or within a couple of minutes to say the least :p

And what I meant about the city was the fact that it seemed to be a circular wall around the city and since its war time I don't think they would have allowed traders to enter or leave Troy :)
