The way history back then was told..was word of mouth only. This is the Bronze age basiclly. Things to remember. The ancient greek alphabet didn't come into play till Homer. Legends had it..he was such a wonderful story teller, they came up with Written Greek. This is the 1st recorded Greek writings in history.
Not to mention...medicine was not what it is today. A serious gash to the thigh would kill you. Gang green (how ya spell it) was common. Certainly an arrow through your ankle could also kill you. I felt that Hollywood made it this way...getting like 5 arrows in the chest for the reason that normal ppl wouldn't get it. "An arrow went through his ankle...how'd he die". So I think they made it more or less for the ppl who are less cultured in Ancient Greece or Bronze age. IMO!
So yes...an arrow to the ankle would have killed someone back then.
This year when the Dead Sea Scrolls came to N.E. Ohio, I was lucky enought o go see them. They had some of the original pieces of Homer's Illiad there. Very nice to see.
They had a ton of other stuff, not just Bible scripts...Egypt writings and so on. Good experience.

As far as food you ask to supply the city? I would say yes. Go back 100 years ago to something like the U.S. Civil war..average man was around 150 pounds, small framed.
Go back as far as Bronze Age..I am sure men were far smaller. 1 bull could feed (hope I remember this right)..either 400 men for 1 week..or its 2,000 men for 4 days. I forget which. Not to mention Troy was a trade route, so I am sure the market place was huge. Ppl back then didn't have salmon and peas and corn everyday for a meal. Most of it was a soup type meal with breads.
later
