I guess,you did misunderstand the nature of my request. It is not to fund the opening ceremony. We did note the stuff that we needed funds for in our letters to the MPs. Polly has set up the Enga Tradition and Transition Fund for donations and such. Donations are welcome. She has raised funds here and will continue to but it is kinnda hard to ask people here in the States to fund capital ( I totally agree with your statement about listing the capital assets needed and that is what we did), something like gibeon baskets to keep off the water and then do fencing. What are people out here going to say "We donated money to PNG-Enga to build and fence". That's ridiculous and that is the kind of thing the Enga Province should do. As in the above case we asked the MP' for help and well the Governor again did come good and so the baskets have been put into place (to keep of river from flooding) and fencing built. He will get a lot of credit and so well he deserves it.
The Center will have a main gallery with all the artifacts and explainations (which Polly is working around the clock writiing up). It is kind of like a semicircle so we will go from pre-historic, to modern Enga with a takeanda there and all the rituals etc. What's not in there, will be in the artium and that will contain the sangai stuff, women's corner, salt making trade and all that. The exhibits will be professionally done in Washington DC so Polly has to come to PNG (early Sept) and finalize al the details before sending it in to the experts for displaying the artifacts and all that. We also have a huge auditorium and conference room. These will need furnishings and that's what we are asking help for. We want the center to be a vibrant learning place. There will be a library and also a research room with computers and all that. So it is a Tradition and Transition Center for Enga were students and many different women's groups, church groups etc have a place to meet and talk about present day issues and learn about their past.
With the help of the EPG and PNG sustainable development the Enga Tradition and Transition Association Inc has put up the building. Blowing up pictures of past leaders and all that will be professionally done. So I guess, what I am trying to say is that, it is a beautiful building with exhibits professionally done and will be a place Enga can be proud of. I am hoping we can get some support to out fit the place with the furnishings, computers and such from the open members so the people can at least get the sense that their leaders care about preserving their heritage. As I mentioned earlier, donors here are not going to be as generous if we say we need money for landscaping and all that but it's something we want to do to make our center beautiful. So any contribution we get from the open electorates will be used for furnishing the place and we will all have gained a sense of satisfaction at the end of the day.
So I guess, I was misunderstood by you, Larsen. The building is up, Polly's working around the clock so our Center will have a grand opening, with or without the open member's support. I was just inviting them to be a part of the project despite not hearing from them for the people's sake. It would be nice for the people to know that their members are behind them and this project to preserve their cultural heritage. If not then, I guess you cann't say we did not try. We'll probably just have to wait for next year's budget and ask the EPG again for more money.
