Many have denounced Peter Ipatas. If Enga or PNG has to select good leaders, what benchmarks should be used? Certainly, there are many that one can think of from textbooks they've read or from experices. In my view Ipatas should be measured by what he has achieved and those he was unable to. For instance, I hold Jamie Maxtone Graham, Bire Kimosopa, Peter Barter, Mekere Morauta, Lady Kidu and a few others to be achievers, both at their electorate and national levels. Has Ipatas been able to do that? If yes, I don't see any reason why he should be toppled. If the answer is in the negative, Enga should judge astutely the characteristics of those vying for seats in 2007 and select those who have achieved whether in the public or private sectors.

I want Enga and PNG to advance jsut as anyone who writes or reads in this forum.

"I don't see any reason why he should be toppled", writes a correspondent named Sikita.
If this is the level of political perspicacity extant within the so-called intellectual sector of Enga, then I weep tears of frustration.
Listen to me, good citizens of Enga, for you are dwelling in Cloud Cuckoo Land. If your governor is corrupt, then your own lives are corrupt. If you allow corruption, you are corrupt. If you are corrupt, then you have no value.

It is time for Engans to grow up and oust this sad and disgraceful cretin of a governor and elect someone with the balls to do something concrete for Enga and our kids here.
To even contemplate, even in hypothesis, forgiveness for Ipatas is to de-consecrate our great land and our people.

I don't condone corruption just as much as the next person. The performance of an MP would normally be judged on the basis of his/her efforts in promotoing the welfare of the electorate and country. I mentioned few names who in my considered view have produced or delivered in their own electorates and PNG. Does the name Peter Ipatas fit into this cadre of MPs when it comes to deliverying goods and services that are vital to the welfare of the citizens? Has Enga and by implication PNG benefitted via the polices and programs pursued by the Ipatas regime?

I am a relist and don't live in the cloud cucko land that was alluded to. Though I am domicilled in POM, I go home (Enga) thrice a year. There are glaring evidences of dilapidated social and economic infrastruture but by the same token, there are signs of positive developments as well. The gist of my piece here revolves around the benchmarks/yardsticks that one should employ when deciding to cast his/her vote. Corruption arguably happens to be an indelible/ubiquitous trait of most politicians, and therefore Ipatas would certainly be not immune to this syndrome. However, Ipatas and others should be measured by what they can be able to achieve and not other considerations that border on intruding into his or their private life (s).
