Students get school fee subsidies

ENGA Governor Peter Ipatas visited East New Britain last Tuesday to turn over school fee subsidies to Enga students attending tertiary institutions in the province.
The governor, who made a low key visit to the province, was welcomed at Tokua airport by beneficiary students.
Mr Ipatas is the leader of People’s Party doing his political visit to New Guinea Islands.
In the course of his tour, he delivered the school subsidies to the students.
His first stopover was in ENB where he visited the Kabaleo Teachers’ College to hand over the school fees subsidies.
According to his office, Mr Ipatas was supposed to visit the teachers’ college, Gaulim, Vudal University, Sonoma Adventist University College and Kokopo Business College to turn over the school subsidies to school authorities.
KTC had confirmed to have received K54,560 for 32 of its students.
An officer of the school said Enga and Bougainville were the only two provinces that provided support to the students as a means of helping their parents.
The officer said since he started teaching in Kabaleo in 2002, he noticed Enga students receiving school subsidy from their provincial government to help them fully pay their fees.
The officer described the assistance as “not a political gimmick” but an initiative of the provincial government to help boost the education standard in the province.
Mr Ipatas left for Bougainville yesterday to give support to his candidates in the province.
