Subject: Mamma hens and their new babies

Hi,

I have 2 hens that are almost ready to have their eggs hatch, one on Tuesday and one next Sunday. They are each in an enclosed brooder which has about 2" ventilation around the top of 3 sides and the doors are just wire.

Do I need to board up the doors before the babies hatch? Days are 100+* and nights are in the 80s at least. Do I need to put lights on them? I don't think so since they'll be under their mommas, right?

Also, they have chick waterers in there. Do I need to put stones in them so the chicks won't drown? Or would it be better to give them quail waterers?

Thank you,
Marion
