i don't like ANY of the healthy choice soups the way they are..."un-doctored". I don't care for any of the cream based ones no matter what I've tried...probably just as well as they are a lot more calories. But the few I mentioned, the chicken and rice, the zesty gumbo, and the vegetable clam i do like when i add the can of diced tomatoes and lots of pepper. Truthfully, I like them even batter when I add more salt but I just can't handle the sodium and the canned soups have a lot of sodium even on their own. So do the frozen diet entrees. I can't eat any of this type of stuff half of the month.

As for homemeade....I reccomend it highly if you have the time. Measure out your protein...say two servings of chicken and then measure out your potatoe or pasta for two servings...and measure out two servings of other veggies and cook up a double batch of soup and divide it in half...maybe even freeze half if you don't like to have the same thing too often. I have read a lot of articles that say that adding spices such as cayenne pepper and chili powder and other hot spices ups one's metabolisim so I try to do that to various appropriate dishes even though I usually don't like spicy foods. I have gotten used to it and hope it helps.

Another thing I have made recently on this whole regime is homemade "diet" chili. I was afraid that even though it was within the bounds of what i thought I should eat that it was so good and so filling that I wouldn't lose weight eating it. However every time I have had it for dinner I have lost weight the next day. It has had the added bonus of being so filling that I have not had an urge to eat in the evening...something which I battle with. (If I have anything after supper in the evening except for a 1/2 a grapefruit I don't lose weight). I take about 5 oz uncooked very lean ground beef and about 1 cup of small red beans (I rinse them very very well). I brown the beef in a skillet with a little chopped onion....green pepper if you wish. When it is browned i add a 1/2 cup of tomotoe sauce (I buy low-sodium or no salt added) and 1/2 cup diced tomtoes, 1/2 cup frozen (defrosted) corn, and the 1 cup of red beans. I add a lot of pepper, chili powder, cayenne pepper, onion powder, and a touch of garlic powder. I don't add any salt because I have such a problem with water retention. then I divide the whole thing in half for 2 servings. I have it for dinner or for lunch with a big side salad. i try to eat most of the salad before the chili. I have never been able to finsish the serving of chili. I usually end up making about 3 servings out it just because i can't eat it all....and let me tell you I have abig appetite!! LOL!

I sure do empathize with the cold weather it has been hovering in the single digits and 0 every night this past few weeks. That is why I do the dancercize. But sometimes I need variety and i do power walking at the mall. It is not a hug mall so I feel ridiculous walking it's circumference about 7 times to get 30 minutes out of it!! You can add some variety to your routine by standing on the bottom step of your stairs and holding on to the wall or railings on both sides. Stand so only the balls of your feet are on the step and you are facing up the steps. Drop down one heel at a time...slow and far down....and alternate as if you were on a stair master machine. You don't have to to do a lot of this to start building muscle in your calves with a little bit every day. You can also just plain run up and down your steps at a moderate pace to get your heart rate up. I have done the craziest things...like jogging through the house in loops around the kitchen...around the dining and living rooms and up and down the stairs. Do it for 10 minutes 3 X a day or 15 minutes 2X a day....whatever you can...whatever it takes. the bottom line is you are doing it...hooray for you!!!

hugs,
Dreemy
