Recently, it was mentioned to me about shakes being a good option for calories control. they defintiely are a good way to be sure one is getting decent nutrients for minimum calories. However, Suggest comparing labels and their read-outs with much scutiny. Some years back I know there was a rash of reports about hair-loss in connection with use of the slimfast plan. Now, granted, this was quite some years back and the formula has changed several times since then. Also, it is a fact that drastic and sudden weightloss by too low a caloric intake can result in hairloss as well as other problems.

No matter the method, the human body needs a balanced regualr intake of the important nutrients and at least 1200 calories a day for an adult female, even when reducing. Any of the fads that have entirely eliminated an entire food-group can lead to health probs. But the quality of the foods from each group is what matters...and of course the caloric amount.

Here's a suggestion...try creating your own shake formula or making additions to a pre-mixed brand. One I particularly like is Spirutein, based on soy protein. It comes in many flavors. I make it up with about 12 oz cold water, a cup or more of ice cubes,3 egg whites and a T. of powdered colostrum. If you are not getting flax meal, healthy oils or fats from another source you can add that in also. 1 scoop of spiruteen made only with water is only 100 calories. each egg white is only 15. You can add one of these shakes as a snack, say mid-afternoon to ensure you blood sugar stays level and hunger kept at bay while getting a whack of protein and potent nutrients. To make a whole meal, one could add fruit or eat a salad with it.

I am continuing to struggle with the rest of you!

hugs!
Dreemy
