Overall, I found this to be a solid story, but not particularly special. It had an interesting premise and attempted to extend the canon of the Buffyverse regarding Ethan Rayne and Giles’ past relationship with him. It also tried to address the lack of any real knowledge about Dawn’s status vis--vis being the Key.

But I did not find it believable at all that Dawn would run off with some strange older man after her encounter with Glory. I think she’d have more sense than that. So this stretched my credibility quite a bit.

Ethan was in character, but I found Dawn’s characterization quite bratty. I may be one of the few who thinks she had good reason to whine in S6, but this rendition of her made her surly and unpleasant. There was also a slight sexual undercurrent I found "icky".

Technically it was well written and the plot did flow well. However, I was unclear if it was Park who was following them or someone else. I would have liked a bit more detail about this. I would recommend this to someone who wanted to know more about the Ethan character, but with a caveat.

Overall rating: 70

I thought this was an excellent story. The character of Ethan Rayne was absolutely perfect, and the interaction between he and Dawn very believable. I liked the twist at the end where Dawn observes that Giles still cares for Ethan. The only tough part for me was the portrayal of Giles in the beginning of the story. I simply can't picture him being that cold and detached.
