February 21
Outside a hotel
Somewhere near Falls Church, VA
"Are you sure you don't want to come with us?" Harm asked Frank and Trish.
"No, we'd really better check into the hotel, dear. Don't want them giving our rooms away!" Trish replied. She smiled and got out of Mac's SUV. "Bye Harm, Mac, Chloe! We'll see you guys later!"
"Bye Mom!" they called in unison. Trish had insisted that everyone call her "mom". At that, they drove away.
"This is gonna be cool!" Chloe exclaimed. "I love looking at people's houses!"
Mac smiled. "We'll be there pretty quick," she said to Chloe.
"Cool!" Chloe bounced up and down in her seat.
It was, indeed, not long until they arrived at the house.
It was a new looking split-level with neat grass, still very short as it was February. There was a small garden in front of the house. Though nothing was blooming, it had good potential. There was a tiny tree in the front yard, which bore no leaves. There was a pine tree at the side of the house. The light snow made the pine tree look elegant. On the house, there were two small windows high above them with an even smaller, semi-circular window above them.
"The outside looks nice," Mac commented.
"Yeah, let's go in," Harm replied. The three got out of the SUV. They walked up the steps and rang the doorbell. A young woman holding a little girl, maybe two years old, opened the door.
"Hi," Mac greeted. "I am Major Sarah Mackenzie. I have been told to come here to look at the house today. You can call me Mac, by the way."
"Oh, hi!" the woman said cheerfully. "I knew someone was coming today. Come on in."
"What's your daughter's name?" Chloe asked.
"This is Jessica. She's two," the woman replied. "And I'm Karen, by the way."
"She's cute," Chloe complimented.
"Thank you," Karen replied. She turned to Mac. "Is she yours?" Karen indicated Chloe.
"No, Chloe is my little sister. In a way," Mac told Karen. She patted her stomach. "THIS is mine."
"Oh, Congratulations!" Karen exclaimed. "How long..."
"I'm about three months," Mac knew the question before it was asked.
"Okay, well would you like to take a look around?" Karen asked. Mac looked at Harm. For once, he was standing quietly in the corner.
"Sure," Mac answered. "By the way, this is Harm, my fiancée." She pulled Harm forward.
"Nice to meet you, Harm," Karen greeted. "Hey, let me know put Jessica in the playroom so she can play..."
"I could keep an eye on her," Chloe suggested smiling.
"Thank you," said Karen gratefully. "That would be wonderful."
"No problem at all!" Chloe grinned happily. She followed Karen to the playroom.
"She's quite the little babysitter," Mac commented when Karen had returned.
"So it seems," Karen responded. "Shall we take a look around?"
"Sounds great!" Harm and Mac replied in unison, smiling.
~**~
As it turns out. the inside of the house was as wonderful as the outside. The carpet was neat. It seemed that little Jessica had spill-proof cups. The walls were all painted white, it was the original paint of the house. Apparently, Karen and Jessica had not lived there very long before deciding to move to Ohio with Karen's parents. Mac had her own thoughts about the situation, but she didn't say anything. Karen was a nice young woman. She was only twenty-four.
Quietly, Harm and Mac whispered and debated about the house, through their tour.
"I think we've made a decision," Harm said finally after they had finished. "We'd like to buy this house." They set up whatever needed setting up, and then went to get Chloe. Karen came with them for Jessica. When they got to the playroom, they saw an amazing sight before their eyes. Chloe was sitting in a corner with Jessica in her lap. Chloe was speaking softly to little Jessica, who had her head resting on Chloe's chest. It appeared that Chloe was telling some type of story. For a moment, the adults just stood silently and watched. Finally, Chloe looked up and noticed them.
"Oh, hi guys," she said, still keeping the tone of her voice down. Jessica did not look up.
"Hi Chloe! You ready to go plan the wedding at Bud and Harriet's place?" Mac asked her.
Chloe sighed. "Yeah, I guess." Harm leaned over to whisper to Mac, who leaned over to whisper to Karen. Karen whispered back to Mac, and then nodded.
"Hey Chloe?" Mac asked quietly.
"Yeah?"
"How about we take Jessica with us, give Karen some free time for a bit?"
"YEAH!!!" Chloe exclaimed, her voice rising now. Startled, Jessica looked up. "That's a great idea!" Mac grinned.
So Karen gave Harm and Mac Jessica's child seat, and they left for Bud and Harriet's house.
"So, are ya gonna buy the house?" Chloe asked.
"Ho-use," echoed Jessica.
"Yes, we are," Harm answered. "We're getting the keys March tenth."
"Cool!" Chloe exclaimed. "Too bad Jessica's moving to Ohio..."
"Well maybe she could come visit her old house sometimes, at a time when you'll be there," Mac suggested.
"Great idea!" Chloe said happily.
Soon, they pulled into Bud and Harriet's driveway. With Chloe's help, they got Jessica out of the car and Harm carried her inside.
"Mac! Harm! Chloe! Good to see you!" Bud greeted as they walked through the doorway. Suddenly he stopped talking. A puzzled expression crossed his face. "Who's the little girl?"
"This is Jessica," Chloe told him eagerly.
"Yes, Chloe. But where did Jessica *come from*?" Bud turned to Harm and Mac.
"We're watching her for Karen, the lady we're buying our house from," Mac added.
"You found a house?" Harriet asked, coming out of the kitchen.
"We just came from it," Harm replied. "Chloe and little Jessica have made friends."
"Co-ee," Jessica said. "Where's Co-ee?" Harm shifted Jessica so that she could see Chloe.
"Here I am!" Chloe cooed. Everyone smiled at how adorable and sweet the two children were.
"Well, why don't you all have a seat in here on our couch," Harriet suggested. Mac and Chloe sat down, Mac in the middle of the couch, and Harm placed Jessica on Mac's lap. (This of course made Chloe scoot closer to Mac) Then Harm sat on Mac's other side. Bud and Harriet sat in the loveseat nearby.
"Still waiting for everyone else," Harriet said.
NOTE: Harm and Annie are getting along because this picks up at Full Engagement, so they never had that breakup in Tiger, Tiger, but they also weren't in a big committed relationship. :)
And soon, Maria, AJ, Frank, Trish, Annie, and Josh showed up. Everyone wanted to know who the little girl on Mac's lap was. And as soon as everyone had arrived, she explained.
"Mac, are you ever going to tell us why people were applauding as we walked by in the airport?" Trish asked. Harm, Mac, and Chloe all giggled, remembering the scene they'd made.
"Okay, okay, we'll tell you," Mac said. She told them all the story of their scene in the airport. Everyone laughed as hysterically as they had when it happened.
"Okay well... on that note, let's get down to some serious planning now," Trish laughed.
"Good idea," Mac choked out, amidst her own giggles.
"So, Major - Mac... have you guys looked at any dates yet? I know you've been busy..." said Harriet.
"We want to put alot of time into making this perfect. However, I'm getting bigger quick," Mac indicated her stomach. "We were thinking May so we could have fresh roses. Admiral, I'm sure you remember about roses."
"The Rose Garden. Yes, I do, Mac," AJ replied. Harriet and Annie looked slightly puzzled.
"We met in a Rose Garden. The Whitehouse Rose Garden, actually," Harm explained.
"I told them it was a sign," Trish said. They all laughed.
"Mac?" asked Chloe. "Jessica wants you."
"I have a feeling I know what that means," Mac laughed. Chloe, who had begged earlier to hold Jessica was now trying to hold the little girl off her lap.
"Had... a... accident," Jessica said loudly. Everyone laughed. Mac lifted the little girl off Chloe's lap, earning a "Be careful" from Harm.
"Is there somewhere I can change her?" Mac asked Harriet.
"Upstairs bathroom," Harriet replied.
"Thanks," Mac said. She disappeared upstairs.
"P. U." Chloe said. "Glad I don't have to change her!" Everyone laughed again.
"Me too," Josh said from across the room. It was the first thing he had said to anyone but Harm and Annie the whole time.
"Josh, come here," Chloe said. Josh came over to her. She whispered something to him and he totally cracked up. Chloe giggled. When they had recovered from the giggles, the two of them ran off.
"Wonder what she said," Annie commented.
"Probably diaper related," Harm answered. The group laughed yet again.
Soon Mac had returned with the little girl giggling and cooing happily again.
"So, Mac, how about dresses. Have you looked at any yet?" Harriet asked. "I was looking at a few things... where's Chloe?"
"She ran off with Josh," Annie piped up.
"Can someone get them for me?" Mac asked. Harm immediately jumped up and fetched the two children, of course making airplane sounds along the way.
"Okay here..." Mac flipped through a catalogue. "I was looking at this set..." All of the woman (and Chloe) gathered around as Mac pointed out several dresses and named a few colors.
By the end of the afternoon, they had set a date for May 14th, decided on having a late dress-fitting session as the bride was going to be quite pregnant by then, and decided on dresses. Mac was going to wear a traditional white dress. Chloe was going to wear a light purple dress with tiny blue and white flowers on it. Harriet was going to wear a dark blue dress, and Maria would wear a lighter blue. Since it was going to be a military wedding, all of them men in the military were to wear dress uniforms.

Same day
2252 Nameless street
Falls Church, VA
Jessica yawned. Her eyelids were heavy. It had been a big day for the little girl. She had chased Chloe and Josh all through the house. Now she was coming home, and she was exhausted. Chloe sat next to her and cooed. Occasionally along the way, she would sing a lullaby to Jessica. It was a very sweet scene.
"Guys," Mac said softly. "We're here."
Chloe unbuckled Jessica's carseat, and Mac got her out of the car. All four of them walked up to the door. Chloe rang the bell.
"Oh, hi," Karen said when she answered the door. She looked shaky. It was obvious that she had been crying.
"Karen?" Mac said uncertainly. "Are you okay? You look upset..."
"Come in, please, and I'll explain," Karen's voice quivered as she spoke. Harm, Mac and Chloe came in, Mac still carrying a sleeping Jessica. "Let me take Jessica up to her crib first." Karen took Jessica from Mac and went upstairs.
"Have a seat on the couch," she said when they returned. Chloe, however was not to be seen. Singing to Jessica, they assumed. Harm and Mac sat on the couch and Karen sat with them.
"Jessica's father," Karen stated. "He was my boyfriend. We were never married. He left me when he found out I was pregnant with Jessica. I was pretty poor then, but I managed to get a job and buy this house. I provided for Jessica and I. Recently, my company went out of business. I couldn't afford the house anymore, so I decided to move back to Ohio with my parents. This evening, two police officers came to my house. They delivered to me a letter from Jessica's father, and told me that he had been... been... been killed... in a car accident. And he was coming to see... me." Karen was now sobbing. "I'm still in love with him. Here..." she handed Mac an envelope and dabbed her eyes with a tissue. "Read this." Mac took the envelope and pulled out a single sheet of paper. A letter. It had been written with blue ink, and in places it was smudged with tears.
Dear Karen,
Karen, I have so much to say to you. I am still in love with you. I am sorry that I left you - and our baby. I love you both very much, but my life was so confusing and messed up then. If you will accept my apology - and I will understand if you do not - then I wish to try our relationship again. I want to know my baby. My phone number is 856-0426 if you wish to call me. My address is on the outside of this envelope. Please consider coming back to me, I love you.
Yours always,
John.
By the time Mac was finished reading, she too was crying. "He was going to... leave it. On my doorstep. I would have... would have contacted him, but now..." Karen left off.
"Oh Karen, I'm so sorry," Mac choked out. "That's so sad."
"I will go to his funeral. Make peace with his soul," Karen whispered. "And now... now you should go. It's late. Chloe needs her sleep."
"Let us know, Karen, if there is any way we can help," Harm told her.
"I will," Karen replied, her voice still shaky.

Mac's apartment
Georgetown
"That was a sad story Karen told us wasn't it," Mac remarked.
"It was. I feel badly for her," Harm replied.
Suddenly, they were interrupted by Chloe coming out of the bathroom. Mac knew she had heard them talking. "You guys know why Karen was crying. Don't you?" Chloe accused.
"Chloe, come here," Mac requested. Chloe came to sit between Mac and Harm. "Chloe, Jessica and Karen haven't seen Jessica's daddy for a very long time. In fact, Jessica has never even met him. He loved them very much and he was going to come see them tonight, but he got into a car accident and died on his way," Mac told the small girl.
"That's sad..." Chloe whispered. A tear slid down her cheek. "Jessica won't know her daddy, just like I didn't know mine... She won't have anybody to make cards for on Fathers' day. She doesn't have a d...daddy to do stuff with now..." Chloe sobbed remembering her own situation.
"I know sweetie," Mac put her arm around Chloe. "But Jessica's mommy loves her, and I love you. Everybody has someone. I'm lucky. I have lots of people who love me."
"Your mommy and daddy didn't," Chloe stated.
Mac cringed slightly remembering. Quickly, Mac regained her composure. "Yes, sweetie, but Harm loves me, you love me, my friends love me... I'm a very lucky girl and so are you."
Chloe smiled at Mac.
"I'd like for you to stay up with us, Chloe, but it's bedtime now, okay?"
"Okay," Chloe agreed. "Mac, I have a question."
"What is it?" Mac was expecting something serious about the people who loved her.
"Do I have to go to school on Monday?"
Mac laughed out loud. "Nope, this is vacation. You're staying with us until next Saturday."
"YES!!!" Chloe exclaimed, bouncing up and down. Harm and Mac covered their ears.
"Come on..." Mac sighed pushing Chloe into the bed and kissed her goodnight, then Harm said goodnight to her.
Once Harm and Mac were back outside the little bedroom, Mac sank back against the couch cushions. "What a day," she commented.
Harm sighed and sat down as well, but no comment followed. Mac noticed he was sitting on the other side of the couch from her. Something was going on and it wasn't that he was tired. He had not kissed her since the airport. Mac was quick to think of that. 'Am I doing something wrong? Did I upset him?' Mac thought. 'Oh God... He... he doesn't love me anymore. He's in love with someone else.' A tear slipped down Mac's cheek. She silently begun to cry.
As Harm was glancing around the room, he noticed her distress.
"Sarah?" he questioned. "Sarah what's wrong?"
"No, Harm," she sobbed. "What's wrong with you?! You've been quiet all day. You haven't kissed me since the airport. Am I... are you... do you... am I not what you want?"
Seeing Mac upset like this broke Harm's heart. She was his soulmate. His other half. She was his one true love. "Sarah... I..." Harm scooted closer to Mac and put his arm around her. He made her look at him. He looked straight in her eye. "Sarah Catherine Mackenzie, I am in love with you, I have been since the day we met. You are my soulmate, you are my one true love, you are my second half and it hurts me so deeply to see you cry. I as well love the child you are carrying. If you need proof that I love you, just say the word and I'll prove it."
"The word," Mac said.
Harm took her in his arms and kissed her, his kiss proving to her what no words could ever convey. She wrapped her arms around him and kissed back, her own love shining through.
When they broke apart, Mac still looked slightly troubled. "Okay, I know you love me. But why have you been so distant then?"
"Sarah, I can't exactly kiss you in front of everyone... it's... well..."Harm broke off and opted to try again. "You're so natural at all this... and I'm not... I can't do all what you can do..."
Mac hugged him... he was so sweet, even though flustered. "Harm it's okay. I don't care who sees you kiss me as long as you do. You'll get used to it." She smiled. "Besides, I know there's plenty of time when we're alone."
Note: The following is a reference to a season four episode. If you'll think back, I warned at the beginning of the story that Silent Service happened before Full Engagement for the purpose of this story. Especially for the part you'll see later.
"I'm sorry, Mac, I need to quit being so sensitive," Harm said.
"That's a problem we've never had before," Mac smiled thinking back to when they were on the USS Watertown. Harm had the same flashback.
"It'll be a marriage soon you know," he said.
"And we're talking now."
"Are we done talking yet?" Harm asked.
"Sure, why?"
Harm kissed her sweetly. "That's why."

What is now Harm and Mac's house
Falls Church, VA
Harm rang the doorbell to the large house. It was soon answered by Karen.
"Hi!" Karen exclaimed. Opening the door, she revealed that Jessica was at her feet. She squealed happily when she saw Harm and Mac. They had become good friends. Mac grinned and picked up the little girl.
"Hi Jessica!" Mac smiled.
Again, Harm warned her to be careful lifting Jessica.
"Don't worry, Harm. I am careful," Mac reassured him.
"Sorry," Harm apologized. "I just worry sometimes about the welfare of those I love."
Mac leaned over and kissed him softly.
"Thanks Harm, I love you."
At this moment, Jessica started to whine and Mac noticed a stench about her. Mac gave Jessica to Karen. "Jessica wants a new diaper," she said. "I believe that's your duty."
Karen laughed. "I'll be right back then. I'd tell you to go have a seat, but..." Karen indicated the empty living room. Harm and Mac knew she had sold everything at a yard sale not long ago.
"We'll stand," Mac told Karen.
Soon, Karen had disappeared upstairs.
"So, Mac, after we get the keys, then we take them to the airport. After that, shall we go pick up our paint and start working?" Harm asked Mac.
"Sounds good to me!" she said cheerfully. She rested her head on Harm's chest. He kissed the top of her head, then she tilted her head up as if to say "Aim for the lips." Harm got the message.
When Karen and Jessica returned, Jessica was looking much happier, and Harm and Mac were still in each others' arms.
"Shall we get going?" Harm asked Karen as he and Mac separated.
"Sure," she replied. Karen grabbed her shoulder bad, and tried to grab Jessica's backpack but instead nearly dropped Jessica. "Could you please take her, one of you?" Karen requested. Harm took Jessica from Karen. Jessica smiled and put her tiny arms around his neck. Together, they all walked to Harm and Mac's new van. Karen put Jessica's carseat in the back, and put Jessica in it. Then she climbed in next to the little girl. Harm got in the driver's seat and Mac next to him.
"So, Karen," Mac said as they pulled out of the driveway. "Are things starting to go better for you?"
"I went to his funeral," Karen told them. "Since then, things have started to go better. It still hurts sometimes, but I'll be okay."
"I'm glad to hear it's getting better," Harm said to Karen.
"Me too," Mac agreed.
"Harm, Mac, you guys have been great friends to Jessica and I. Thank you so much, we're going to miss you," Karen was starting to get teary eyed.
"Karen, we'll miss you too. We've enjoyed knowing you. I'd like you two to come down for our wedding. You can visit anytime," Mac told them.
"Mac, I'd love to. Thank you so much. I know the phone number too, so I'll call you if I need to talk or whatever." Karen wiped away her tears.
Soon they were at the bank where they were going to close the move. Harm, Mac, Karen, and little Jessica met up with the people helping them close, signed numerous papers (not Jessica. LOL) and FINALLY Harm and Mac got the keys to their new home. At this, they left for the airport.

NOTE: This fanfic was written before 9/11 for the most part and again I remind you that it plays no part in my story. Don't expect your visit to the airport to go like this.

Dulles International Airport
Washington, DC
"We are now boarding coach class seats 8A-16F," blared the speaker.
"That's us," Karen said. She hugged Mac, then Harm. When Jessica saw this, she immediately ran to Mac with her arms in the air.
"UP," Jessica demanded. Mac laughed and picked up the little girl. Harm bit his lip. Mac hugged the little girl and told her goodbye, then passed her over to Harm. Mac saw how good Harm was with Jessica.
'Our kids will love him so much. They have the perfect father, and I the perfect man,' she thought.
Seats 8A-16F, last call!"
"We'd better go," Karen said, removing Jessica from Harm's arms.
"Goodbye!" called Mac and Harm.
"Bye!" Karen called back. "Bye-bye," Jessica said. She waved her little hand at Harm and Mac. At this, Mac burst into tears, waving back to Jessica. Instantly, Harm was holding Mac, comforting her.
When Mac had recovered from her tears, she pulled away from Harm. "I'm sorry Harm... I don't usually do this..."
"Sarah, you're pregnant, and you just said goodbye to some very good friends. It's to be expected. To be honest... I was getting a little teary eyed myself," Harm reassured her. "Don't ever apologize for being you.
"Thank you," Mac whispered, putting her arms around Harm. "I love you."
"I love you too, Sarah."

April sixth (My birthday!!)
1200 ET
Bethesda
Prenatal care wing
Harm and Mac waited quietly in the waiting room for the receptionist to call them. Mac was going to have an ultrasound today to see if everything was going okay.
Finally Mac's name was called. Hand in hand, the couple walked back to the ultrasound room.
"The doctor will be in shortly. Ms. Mackenzie, prepare yourself," said the receptionist. Mac did as she was told. Then, with much care, she climbed up onto the table chair thingy. Just then, a woman walked into the room.
"Hi, I'm Dr. Wilder, I'll be doing your ultrasound in place of Dr. Kidwell. She's unfortunately our with a virus today," said the woman.
"Okay," said Mac nervously.
So Dr. Wilder did the ultrasound stuff. She looked at the screen and smiled. "Ms. Mackenzie, Mr. Rabb, everything is going quite well, and I do have some GOOD news for you," she told them.
"What is it?" Harm and Mac asked in unison.
Dr. Wilder pointed to a pulsing image on the ultrasound. "See this?" she asked. Nods from Harm and Mac. "That's your baby's heartbeat." At this point, Mac got emotional. Harm put his arm around her. Then they saw Dr. Wilder point to another identical pulse.
"What's that?" Mac asked.
"That would be your other baby's heartbeat. Congratulations, Ms. Mackenzie, Mr. Rabb. You are having twins," Dr. Wilder announced.
"Twins!" Mac squealed. "Oh my goodness, we have been blessed, not once but twice!" Mac looked at Harm. She had never seen him look more proud than he did at that moment. He was having twins. He would have twin babies to dress alike, he could buy two of everything and show off their matching little children to everybody. He loved the children already. They were a part of him, and a part of the woman he loved.
"Can you tell if they are identical?" Mac asked.
"They are," the doctor replied.
The doctor finished everything very quickly. She cleaned everything up and allowed Harm and Mac to leave. They scheduled their next ultrasound for later in the pregnancy, when Mac would be eight months pregnant. Then Harm and Mac left. When they were outside the hospital, Harm took Mac into his arms and kissed her softly. Their small kiss turned into a longer, more passionate one after just a moment.
"Thank you," Harm told Mac as they separated. "For giving me your love, and for giving me two babies."
"Thank you, Harm, for accepting it," Mac replied.

JAG HQ
Falls Church, VA
Harm and Mac walked out of the elevator. Harm was carrying a huge mound of files and two briefcases. Mac was carrying nothing, rolling her eyes now and then. Harm had insisted that she allow him to carry everything.
Even more interesting to many nearby was what Mac was wearing. She had finally switched to the pregnancy uniform. Nearly everyone already knew that she was pregnant though she had tried to hide the fact that she was putting on weight. Still, she noticed a few stares.
Harm set down the files in Mac's office and then they proceeded with Harm's briefcase towards his office. On their way, Mac noticed Lieutenant Singer staring. She also saw Mic look at her kind of funny. She remembered that they had not heard that announcement.
Finally they reached Harm's office. She followed him in and then closed the door. "Goodness, Harm, I felt like I was taking the walk of SHAME out there with them all staring at me!" Mac exclaimed.
"One difference. There's nothing to be ashamed of," Harm replied.
Mac laughed. "That's quite a difference."
"It is," Harm agreed. "You'd better go get some work done or the Admiral will be after our blood." He stood and kissed her softly. "Bye, my beauty."
"Goodbye, handsome sailor," she responded. As she was headed back to her office, Lt. Singer approached her.
"Major!" she said. "You're wearing a pregnancy uniform!"
"Yes I am, Lieutenant. Might that be because I'm pregnant?" Mac's voice was cold as she spoke. Hers was a rhetorical question.
"OOOH! Who did it??" Singer asked slyly.
"Umm... wouldn't that be obvious? You know I am kind of engaged to Commander Rabb!" Mac's response was pretty much a "Duh".
"Well you know... just wondering..." Singer raised her eyebrows.
"If I was cheating on my fiancée?" Mac finished for her. "Look, Lieutenant, I am in love with Lieutenant Commander Harmon David Rabb Junior. In NINE DAYS we will be married and in THREE MONTHS we will have two beautiful children. He loves me and I love him. Get it in your head. You CAN'T have him, Singer."
"Okay, okay," Singer walked away, muttering to herself.
Mac felt a hand on her shoulder. She wheeled around, expecting to see Mic, who had been watching. Instead, Harm was behind her.
"Thanks, Sarah. You really stood up to her," he said softly.
"I'd never give up my sailor without a fight," Mac assured him.

Harm and Mac’s new van
On the way to a church somewhere
Harm sighed. The traffic was intense. They were driving with Karen, Jessica, Chloe, Annie, and Josh to the church where Harm and Mac were to get married the very next day. The whole wedding party was going to stay at a hotel that night, and then after the wedding reception the next day, Harm and Mac would leave on their honeymoon.
Today Mac was very nervous. She wanted everything to be just perfect. Kids were giggling. Karen and Annie were in deep conversation and Mac was going through a mental checklist. It was a very tedious time.
“I think I see our exit slowly approaching,” Harm announced. Everyone cheered happily.
“Good, then we can get something to eat,” Mac said smiling. “The babies are hungry.”
“Babies?” shouted Chloe. “As in plural? More than one baby?” Chloe was delighted at this discovery.
“Twins,” Mac grinned.
“Identical,” Harm added.
“YYYYYEEEEESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Chloe screamed. “Do I getta fly down when they’re born? Can I baby-sit?”
“Yes and yes,” Mac replied smiling.
Finally they had stopped for food and arrived at their hotel. Harm made Mac check them in while he carried all of the luggage. She had grumbled about this quite a bit.
When they had made their reservations, they had gotten separate rooms for Mac and Harm, due to observing tradition. Everyone knows the bride and groom can’t see each other before the wedding.
Finally everything was in their rooms and they had met up with everyone who had driven separately. Having done all that, they proceeded to the wedding rehearsal, and then to the rehearsal dinner. So far everything had gone smoothly. Going back to the hotel was the problem.
************************************************************************
Later that evening
Comfort Inn
Someone knocked on Harm’s door. He answered quickly to see Chloe standing outside his room. “Harm, you’d better come here. Mac’s crying,” she rushed.
“She is?” Harm was alarmed. “Come on.” He dashed out of his room and down the hall to Mac’s. When they got to the room, Chloe held up her hand.
“Let me go in first, I’ll get you,” she whispered. Chloe put the key in the door and walked in. Harm could hear them talking.
“Mac, Harm’s here to see you.”
“But... he’s not supposed to see...” Mac was sobbing. She left off her sentence and started bawling again. Harm couldn’t take it anymore. He charged in the door which Chloe had left open and hurried to Mac’s side.
“Sarah!” he exclaimed. “Sarah, what’s wrong?”
“You’re not supposed to see...” was all he got from her.
Harm looked at her. She was wearing what he knew to be her wedding dress.
“Never mind that, what’s wrong, Sarah?” he asked again.
“I was... I was trying on... my... my dress... to see how I looked,” she sobbed. “And I... I ... I looked fat!” Mac dissolved into tears. “And... and I was afraid that you might not... you might not want to... you might think I looked bad....”
“Oh my God, Sarah Mackenzie is that what you really think?” Harm was concerned. Mac nodded. “My God, Sarah, you’re not the least big ugly, you look wonderful! You may not realize it, but you’re the most beautiful person I could ever even hope to meet and I love you more than anything in the world. You’re pregnant, and obviously you’re going to gain a little wait, but to be honest, I think your pregnancy is one of the most beautiful things about you. It shows that you love me enough to give me two little babies.” Harm gathered her in his arms and kissed her cheek.
Mac sniffed. “Really?”
“Really.”
“I love you!” she rested her head against his chest.
Wiping the tears from her face, he said “I love you too.” Harm and Mac both leaned in for a kiss. They kissed each other for a long time, passions overflowing.
