Wesimbi, the Burning One, turned his crystalline gaze upon the small elf as she settled herself onto the branch beside him. Her dark gaze was troubled and he found his frustration with her melting away on the instant.
"Oh, Kira," he said quietly, lowering his great head to speak to her. He wanted to tell her how much she had taught him, how even though he was called Wisest, she was continually teaching him things he would never have bothered to seek out.
"I have heard their conversations," he told her at last, shifting his great fire-colored wings. "They make for the pass, and shall not be deterred. Well, my little messenger, it seems that I must once again trouble myself with the dealings of the mortals. This group must be turned back, regardless of their presumed talmora. Cheysuli and Jellicles returning home! What is our western world coming to, Kira? What do they imagine that they shall find in the East? Do they think that their ancestors have developed in a parallel manner to themselves?"
Wesimbi shook his head slowly, and his fathomless eyes were intent as he studied the creatures moving slowly across the earth. "What interests me the most, my young friend, is the matter of the J'varra huila---the Silent Paw. I have never seen one here in the West before, and it troubles me. What's more, she is a liren, joined to that boy...that strange boy. His mind is closed, Kira. I cannot reach him without harming him. It is a most curious thing.
"Come, young one. We await their arrival at Bent Rock."
With a final, fond glance at the elf, the Eternal Flame of the Hedrons gathered his ruby legs beneath him and launched straight into the air, disappearing into the twilit cloud cover and streaking toward the mountains.
