It Takes A Man (Chapter Two)

Previously in “It Takes a Man”…Todd sent Paloma back to Mexico and told Blair that their son did not die.

Blair knew that Todd missed their baby as much as she did, but she had no idea that he had somehow convinced himself that he did not lose another son. She also did not realize that he had started to believe that Jack was indeed their biological child. Blair didn’t think that she could love Todd more than she did at that moment. This man who showed the world his rough exterior, was
never able to hide his tender, caring side from her or the children. She let go of his hands, placed her’s on each side of his face and kissed him gently on his lips, her lips lingering on his for a few seconds.

She broke the kiss, stared him straight in his eyes and said, “Todd I know how hard it is to deal with the loss of a child. What makes it worse is that you didn’t know that he was your’s until a few months ago. If I live a hundred years, I will regret not telling you that he was our baby from the moment I knew. If nothing else, we could have grieved for him together. On the other hand, if I had told you the truth, he might not have died because I would not have ran away to Mexico to have him. I took that away from you Todd, and I am sorry. But now we have Jack, and we have to try to be there for him, just as we would’ve been there for our son, had he lived.”

Todd was speechless. This wasn’t the reaction that he had expected. He prepared himself to be smacked down, cursed at, hit with a vase or two, but not this. It had become apparently clear to him that Blair did not believe him. She loved him, he loved her and it would never occur to her that he would break her heart like this AGAIN. Not after losing their first child, using Senorita Troll to take Starr away and most recently, turning her into the police. Despite everything, he had done to her, Blair still believed in him and in his love for her. Todd considered letting it go and not tarnishing Blair’s image of him, but he knew that he had to make her believe the truth and somehow, make her forgive him.

Taking her hands from his face, and holding them in his, Todd said “Blair you don’t understand. When you told me that you were pregnant with Maxhole’s brat, I lost it. I finally came to terms with it because I knew that this was also YOUR child and I wanted the four of us to be a family no matter what. I was even willing to put up with seeing Holden once in a while, since I knew that your heart was with me and we would be that happy family that Star is always talking about.”

“But the thing is Blair, when we were in the hacienda in Mexico and I delivered the baby, it finally became real to me. I didn’t want to share you with anyone else, especially not that asshole, and your ONLY connection to him was the kid.” Blair cut him off and said, “I know Todd. I don’t know how many times you want me to apologize for lying to you about that.” Todd put his right index finer on her lip and said, “Shut…up (Blair flashes back to the time when she kissed him at The Sun and he told her to shut up in that same sultry, sexy manner). I need to tell you this
before I lose my nerve.” She took his right hand from her mouth and into her left hand, kissed his palm, and said, “I’m sorry Todd, go ahead.”

Todd continued. “I didn’t want to have to deal with seeing Holden on any basis, much less on a regular one.” Todd let go of Blair’s hands and combed his hands through his hair. At the same time he let out a loud grunt, similar to the ones he had been making whenever Blair sent him into a mind-blowing orgasm these past two weeks. “Blair, after I delivered the baby I held him for a while and then handed him to Paloma. I gave her a truckload of money, and told her to get rid of him and told her to tell you that he had died (Todd flashes back again…“Get rid of it, just get rid of it”).” Todd, now with his head down, could not face Blair. Based on her silence, he knew that she finally believed him. He felt that she needed the whole story, so he continued.

“Paloma didn’t have the heart to give the baby away so I took him to the airport and gave him to a baby broker. After a few minutes, I decided that this guy was a little too creepy, so I gave him some money, took the kid, and sent the guy on his way. As I was about to leave the airport with the baby, to bring him back to you, I ran into David Vickers. We traded insults, reminisced about old times (Todd flashes back to he and Blair embracing in his office after they had scammed Vickers) and then he finally went away. I guess it was just dumb luck because as soon as I was about to leave the airport, I saw two nuns collecting money for charity. I knew that the kid would be safe with them, so I gave him to them.”
