The woman lays curled in a ball in the farthest corner of the stall, resting among a small 'nest' of straw. The storm's bellows muffle her gasp at the male's unexpected arrival, muscles borne of life on the street lifting her from her rustic bed and into action.

She watches the unknown male through the thin slats in the wood as he comforts the startled equine, her weak muscles tensing as he eases suspiciously across the aisle and towards the stall she had chosen as her temporary hideaway. She cringes and presses her back to the wall as he draws nearer her, her heart pounding unbearably in her ringing ears.

She darts through the door of opportunity as he looks away just before discovering her illegal presence in the stable, grateful for the clatter of rain against the rooftop, which muted her hurried footsteps 'cross the aisleway's damp soil. Panting, she collapsed into the nearest empty stall and crawled into the far corner, a combination of her pregnancy, lack of food, and pneumonia stealing away the remainder of her limited supply of energy.
