Subject: New Post Link at top of index

I decided to go with my own link to the new post page, and once it was working OK went to remove the default link. I went into Display Settings and unchecked Display new post link at top of forum index?, but it hasn't actually removed the default link. Am I being particularly stupid, or is this a problem?
