Thanks for the compliments... I don't think I'm the brightest mind on DU, really - I don't know who is, but I don't think I merit that title.

As for the book suggestion, I've happened to think about it too :-). The Liberal Manifesto is in fact intended as the first chapter in the book, on which all others are built; I though I'd expand on freedom (in order to knock out the conservative claim to the term), rhetoric, totalitarianism, constitutions, and so on. If you look carefully at the manifesto, further, you'll see that it's intended for an international audience; the only point where I write for Americans is the one about the constitution.

One final point: the title I thought of was In Defense of Liberalism, but I don't know how good it is.
