>I started having a problem with my Kia Sportage about a year ago, it got to the point where my car would only go 12 mph going up a hill. I took it in to Bosch Kia and told them my car's symptoms and they said I needed a tune-up. After the tune-up my car ran a little better for a very short time. I returned to Bosch and finally they took me serious and I found out I needed a timing belt. I was told that the timing belt is not part of the drive train and I had to pay the entire bill to have it replaced. Ever since they replaced the timing belt my transmission has been acting funny. Just last week I took it back to the dealer to find out why and I even told them I thought my transmission was going. I got a call from them saying I need a new transmission, which was covered under the warranty. They then asked me for all my receipts for all the times I had my transmission checked and the transmission oil replaced. I called the mechanic who had worked on my car and he said that if the transmission wasn't leaking they wouldn't break the seal. Therefore my transmission oil was never replaced and my warranty will not cover my transmission. According to KIA you are suppose to check your transmission oil every 15,000 miles and replace it at 30,000, 60,000 and 90,000. I've had stick shifts my entire life and I have never had to do this before. Something else to watch for.

I have a 2001 Kia Rio with 72,000 miles whose engine
>was destroyed by a timing belt that was not replaced
>by the Kia service dept. I went to them at 59,000
>miles and stated that I wanted them to do everything
>necessary to keep my warranty intact. Kia's position
>is that because I didn't say "replace the timing belt"
>I am liable, and the powertrain warranty won't cover
>the new engine-- a cost of approximately 4100 dollars
>according to the dealership, and 2000 according to my
>local mechanic. I am in the process of researching the
>Magnuson-Moss federal warranty act to bring a lawsuit
>against Kia for failing to honor its warranty. Any
>advice would be appreciated.Thanks.
