>I have a 2003 Rio Cinco I bought new. I am told the timing belt is defective and they won't cover. But according to the warranty book ,it is part of the power train. When I pointed this out, I was told that I had to have replaced it at 60000 miles at my own expense. This information isn't in the warranty guide, but in the owners manual. How convenient for KIA. However, it was not defective at 60000 miles, so why would anyone replace it? Also, they never mentioned that to me as part of the routine maintenance at the time. So now at 65000 they want $600.00 to replace it, and the part only cost $40.00. KIA has shafted me every time the car has been in. The brakes had to be replaced, including the rotors at a lousy 5000 miles. That is ludicrous. Then the FREE tires (cost me $300.00) had to be replaced at 10000 miles. They were garbage that only lasted me about 7000 miles. I did not go back for more of their FREE tires. Same with the FREE oil. $32.00 each change- KIA Service is the worst and they are liars getting away with ripping off the customers. I certainly won't buy another KIA or anything else from KIA and I made sure I tell everyone I see and talk to about them. I also have 8 children and 22 grandchildren and all the extended families that come with them that will never deal with them because of my experience. I intend to reach out as far and wide as possible with this.

I have a 2001 Kia Rio with 72,000 miles whose engine
>was destroyed by a timing belt that was not replaced
>by the Kia service dept. I went to them at 59,000
>miles and stated that I wanted them to do everything
>necessary to keep my warranty intact. Kia's position
>is that because I didn't say "replace the timing belt"
>I am liable, and the powertrain warranty won't cover
>the new engine-- a cost of approximately 4100 dollars
>according to the dealership, and 2000 according to my
>local mechanic. I am in the process of researching the
>Magnuson-Moss federal warranty act to bring a lawsuit
>against Kia for failing to honor its warranty. Any
>advice would be appreciated.Thanks.
