Hi , I have a well pump that is at least 10 years old, it has worked without problems and I believe it is a good product. But recently it began leaking around the clamp. I have been told that if I replace the O rings and seals that this should solve the problem. I am not a plumber and I would rather pay someone to do this but I cant find a well or pump person who will go anywhere near the project, they say I must bring the pump to them. Which brings me back to my Original question, If I want to simply replace the existing pump with a new one of the exact model, is this something a non- plumber like me can do, or should I just pay Sears the $200.00 plus to have them do the work. Can some one please give me instructions regarding replacing the whole pump. Or is it worth the money to avoid the hassle. I can handle the electrical part no problem. Thanks , any help would be greatly appreciated. Brendan- Orlando, FL

Water from new sandpoint in Northeastern Wisconsin is fine sometimes, fades to nothing other times. Latest discovery is that when we put in a new filter, water flow is great but two or three days later it disappears. Seems that the filter gunks up that quickly, with grains of clay (?) apparently from the well (?). Will this problem go away by itself? How soon? Any way to make it go away fast?

i am looking to drill or hammer a shallow well for my pond? I want to have a timer on the pump, what to use"? I would like to learn a brief start to finish way to do this, such as do I need casing, foot valve etc. on drive point. Was told the first table will be found between 40 and 80 feet. For this purpose what type of pump. Was also wondering about a rumor I heard about shallow wells, is that the water could be high in iron or sulfer and would kill the fish in the pond, plus livestock would not drink out of? Please help me,also my location is in south east Texas.

A recent cold spell, -20 degrees, in Northern Michigan left us with a frozen inlet line in the crawl space at the cottage. We use the cabin most every weekend so we leave the heat around 50 degrees inside and shut off the well. Normaly this works, but not this time. My question, should I leave a faucet open after shutting off the well to let air into the lines or will this cause other pump problems?

I have a old sprinkler well about 23 years old. It is 23ft deep. Last season I couldn't get sa prime no matter what I trued. I told a garden hose and put it down the wellto flush it. It cleard the screen and the well worked fine for 2 mounths. At the end of the season same thing barley any water pumping. Should I try pulling the pipe and put a new drive point with screen and drive 5-10" deeper or what do you recomend? The pump sits on top and is 11/2" and is 1/2hp.Can I drive a 2" pipe and reduce to 1 1/2" at the pump? Thanks for any help.

I could use some advice on installing a sand point at my lake. Right now I seem to have a fresh water supply coming out of the ground about 3m from the lake. There use to be an old boat house at this spot at one time, but has been knock down many years ago. The old owners of the cabin use to pull water from this location by putting a foot value just a foot under the pool of water, with all kinds of frogs swimming around.
After I drive a sand point down into this pool of water should I try to back fill the area with clean fill or should I not be bother with it anymore because my new supply is deep underground. It’s has been about -30c to -38c for the past month at the lake and the water keeps lightly streaming towards the lake. The water is very clear and is very cold even during the hot summer months.
Thanks

I am in Japan, on an alluvial plain just a quarter mile from the ocean. According to the neighbors, its all sand as far down as you go. the water table is at just 2 feet down, but they recommend going down to 14 feet. They say that going too far down you will hit an acquifer that has high salt content form seawater incursion.
So for my casing I bought a 4inch diameter PVC pipe 4 meters (14feet) long, and a PVC coupling. I used my bench grinder to cut some teeth into the coupling, then glued it to the pipe. I have already dug a hole four feet deep 18 inches diameter by hand, lining it with sheet metal riveted together. Next I plan to stand the 4 meter pipe in the hole. My utility pump is a 120 liter per min discharge (don't know how that translates to KG/cm2)with a 1 1/2 inch outlet, to which I have connected a 10 foot long flex hose.
QUESTION: should I use a 1 1/2 pipe for my jet, since that is the diameter of my pump's dishcharge? or will decreasing the diameter of the jet give more digging power?
Q.2. I plan on using two 150 gallon AG tanks as my water source, I have already filled them with the water I have pumped out of the hole I dug so far, And will use these tanks to recycle the muddy water that comes out;
Does my plan seem feasible, or do I need to adjust or rethink some details?
Any wisdom or advice is greatly appreciated, thank you.

When I turn on my shower I get about 5 min of water then it looses pressure and eventually no more water, I shut off the water and the pressure builds back up, takes about 20 min. I put in a new pump and no change. It's a shallow well don't know the depth, pump is a (shur-dri)1/2 HP, cutin 20 psi, cutout 40 psi, pressure tank set at 18 psi. I just bought the house that was in foreclosure. The pump is in the basement that is about 20 to 30 feet away from where the pipe goes down in the ground

Hello

I have land in NE washigton, that I'm in need to irrigate the newly planted trees, etc during the summer.

It has numerous natural springs which actually keep a pond filled until mid summer. Even thought the pond does close to dry, the surrounting area is always wet.

If I drive a 2" drive point down, since this area is saturated, do I have to hit a sandy area?

A rough thought is down about 15 feet. This would be only for irrigation.

Thanks

I have a well that is high in sulfur. Today I pulled the well cap off to check the well, after cleaning quite a bit of corrosion from the top of the cap I found that the part of the cap inside the well was nearly completely eaten away. This cap had been on the well approximately five years. Are there any caps out there that are more resistant?

We just bought this house in feb 08 and up to about mid august the well had water running out the overflow continues. Then about september it was almost empty so
I started to haul water and have been hauling water every week since then. The well is 5 foot in diameter and 20 feet deep the walls are concrete and have holes in them all the way around and about every 5 inches. I would of thought the spring would have came back buy know. Is their anything I can do to the well to make it come back sooner or not have to haul water next summer also.
the person we bought the house from has never lived in it so knows very little about it.

New Construction and put PECS in the whole house - there of course are a couple of copper pipes to the Hot Water tank and to the Pressure Tank - very small amount. We installed a new Culligan Water Softner, and a treatment for Tannin. We have a very small amount of tannin, but enough they said we should treat, as the Iron will stick to it. Our Well does have a bit of Iron and a small smell, like an old dirty rusty metal pipe. We have a fairly large house and put in a 18GPM Tannin Filter, and they found out later the Water softner was only 8GPM. The water with this set-up was an aqua blue - very small color, and we had no staining. The backwash was with clorine. Then they came out and changed the water softner to an 18GPM but now we use Salt as the backwash. Now our water is very green and is leaving stains on the Tub and toliets. They seem to be stumped at Culligan. Any ideas I can try?

My problem is, at any time, turning on the tap will result in the pressure dropping to no water, then after a few minutes I notice the pump will turn on, the water will start to flow at a good rate for about maybe 5 minutes then the pressure will drop agian, resulting in waiting for the pump to turn on.

I understand basically how a well system works, I have a pressure tank that was explained to me, keeps the water pressure constant.
How does the pump know when the pressure is dropping so it can turn itself "on" before the water stops flowing?

Our well is yielding significantly less water than before. We recently had a month long river flood and the well seal was below water for a month.
Well is 4" cased drilled in bedrock, water enters from a crack at about 40 feet, total well depth is 65 ft, pump is about 5 ft of the bottom of well. Well is screened and gravel packed. Yield was 3-4 GPM, now is around 2 GPM. Water is of poor quality due to high mineral content - very hard, high TDS and sulfur. Ordinarily we use the river water but since we are interested in selling the property I need to have the well working to be able to sell and would like to have it in good shape since we also use it as a back up.

I would kike to hear from anyone who knows about acidizing a well and also anyone knowing how to jet a well with a compressor. After all of the expenses we incurred with the flood we don't have the cash for a well service so any good advice would be very much appreciated.

My main house and my vacation house are both serviced from local community well associations which charges fees of about $800 per year. I have been seriously thinking of sinking a well for my entire household water needs.

Houses outside the community well area all seem to have large water pressure tanks with chlorine dosage equipment that look expensive and time consuming to maintain. I see no mention of water treatment your site. Are you implying a well sealed well does not need the chemical treatment equipment? Can those small 8 gallon pressure tanks really service an entire house?

My vacation home has a creek near it, running in winter and dry in the summer. I dug a fence post 2 feet down and 50 feet from the creek and hit a flowing stream of water at the bottom of the 2' hole. It looked like a garden hose running at the bottom of the hole but it did not fill up the hole. I imagine it would not be a good idea to sink a well in the center of the creek because of surface water contamination but is there a rule about how far away (or how high above the creek water level) that a well should be?

My main house is on a steep hill (will lots of clay and redwood trees) and it is unfortunately about 150 above and 300 feet away from a stream that flows even during the summer. My property starts 200 feet away from the stream but continues up the hill 200 feet. I imagine the water table will be rather hard to hit on the hill side. Does it matter if i try to sink the well higher on the hill or as low I can get to the stream? Is there a rule about how high above the house or how low below the house a well should be? For example is there a pumping issue if the house is 70 feet above the well or so?

I see inexpensive geothermal heating units that can use wells as the heat source by placing a looped hose in the well and pumping cold fluid down the well tube and getting ground temperature fluid out of the well tube. Can driven wells be used for this? Would a larger diameter than 2" be needed. Seems a series of driven wells might work.

The problem is, I can't get the pump to prime. The pump will start to build pressure and then drops to 0. I turn the pump off and back on and it again starts to build pressure, and again drops to 0. I know that the 1 1/2" pipe is full of water. I have no way of knowing how full the area between the PVC and well casing is. I believe it is full. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

I had a new well drilled this last spring (300'/6") & I have a continuous problem with murky water. The guy that drilled the well keeps telling me to run water through the spigot until it clears and all will be fine. This does work, but if there is no water flow for about 24 hrs it comes back. I had no problem during the summer because of my automatic sprinkler flow. Shocking the well did not fix the problem. After shocking I did get the expected dark rust muck; ran the water until it cleared, only to have the cloudy water return.

Water shuts off in house . pump is running . gauge shows 0 to 10 psi . stopping and starting pump 3-4 times restores pressure . this pump is a 1hp sears vertical jet pump . the regulator is missing the rubber valve seal.could an internal leak in the regulator caused by the seal being missing cause the problem?

I'm drilling a new well this weekend with a Rockmaster rig to replace an old shallow well that has nasty water and doesn't produce much water in the summer. Winter wasn't a problem, I could wash clothes, my car, or irrigate with no problems. The old well is near the inside corner in my barn, so getting anything in there to make it deeper is questionable, Right now I can take a shower or do dishes and have to wait half a day for it to recoup. It's my only water supply. We are just above the level of a large lake (Clearlake, CA). so the water table seems to be not far down. All my fruit trees have fruit on them like they are irrigated, but I haven't watered them since the late spring.

On to my question.... My next door neighbor has a 45' well with better water, and next to him a 65' well with even better water and production (20 GPM). All of the water around here has high iron content. Any one who drinks the water has filtering systems. I'm trying to decide whether to go with a Jet two-pipe setup, or a submersible pump. Everyone I've talked with that has a well less than 100' depth says stick with the Jet (what I have now) because the high iron messes with submersibles. I thought I'd ask you guys?

I live in Mooresville, NC... we're looking to purchase a home that would be perfect for our living plus could have our business. Double bonus. I'm just a midwest farm girl but don't really know much about these things. Here's the HUGE problem. The house was constructed in 1948 and sits on a 3/4 acre lot. The previous owner (unable to contact due to house being a foreclosure) had a new well drilled in Feb. 2006. The bank won't turn on the power to check the well until an offer on the house has been made and accepted by them. So, I began to investigate. I contacted the company who drilled the well and they informed me that the well went 705' deep (extremely deep) and it only pumps 1 gal per minute. The well is 6" dia and has a 44 gal tank. Now here's the deal. The house was originally a two bedroom single story. The prior owners added a two car garage with living area above, with a bathroom. The well company assured me that 1 gal per minute is plenty water for the house, possibly not the living quarters above the garage. The house has a massive hot water heater (I know why now). They informed me that with the 6" diameter well and the 44/ gal tank this should be sufficient. Not enough for irrigation or anything, but should be sufficient water. I currently live in a house where we get about 4-5 gal per minute and it's terrible. Oh, I forgot to mention the house we're looking at also has a 1 1/2 hp pump. I inquired to whether we could drill a little deeper and they stated that a person starts running into problems with wells so deep and it's best to drill a new well (just like you mentioned they would on your site). There isn't an option for city/ county water. Can anyone give me any suggestions or any knowledgeable water solutions? I know, most people would walk away from this house, but it would be ideal for what we need EXCEPT FOR LACK OF WATER. UGH!

Please help! Blessings to you all!

The pressure switch on my well system doesnt seem to know what the pressure is... I put a new switch, that didnt help. Whats happening is, the pump runs and runs till the pressure is well over the 50 psi, when it does kick off, after use the pressure goes down to zero without kicking back on. After several minutes of being at zero the pump all the sudden kick on and do the same cycle over again. Tank is not waterlogged...switch is new...any ideas???

I am a single mom who is trying to work on a pump and I have very limited knowledge about wells. I have a jet pump with a small bladder tank. I can't get the dang thing to prime. I made one of those double ended hose things and hooked up my city water to the pump and it won't prime. The tank fills up, then when I turn off the water, it spits and spurts and muddy water comes out and then the pressure drops to 0 and won't go back up! What am I doing wrong. Could there be a leak in the system or could the check valve be bad? I'm at a loss and I really need some answers! Thanks!

Hi everyone and thank you for your help in the past. I finally found all the parts needed for my 2" deep well. I have my 2" deep well packer and right angle well adapter for the top of the 2" pipe. Right angle adapter will be connected with PVC to the 1HP jet pump, not directly to the adapter.. My question is: I read and called several well companies and they tell me to use 1 1/4" drop pipe or suction pipe. The problem is, the couplings to join the pipe together will go inside the 2" pvc pipe but there isn't much room for the water flow to pass by them down the 2" casing. I am worried it will not create enough flow or pressure down inside the pipe around the couplings to the packer to help push water up the 1 1/4" pipe. Should I use 1" pipe or will this work ok? For details about the well,, from top of 2" pipe to water level is 50', well is 140'. Planning on putting packer with foot valve to around 70' to 75'. Thanks again and hope someone can help soon. Everything is drying up here in SC and need the well just for watering my garden and lawn before it turns to straw!

I've read the messages here, and am seeking the help of all here, with the hope of repairing our well.

We are in South Florida, and have a well with a pump. The pump is a 2hp centrifugal pump, and the well head appears to be 2-1/2". When we moved in, the well would run all the sprinklers, but has steadily trickled down.

Today I opened up the lines, and ran a line directly to a bucket to measure the pressure. we are getting apprx 6GPM, where looking at our old zones, they were designed for 20-22 GPM. Needless to say, we are not watering very well here.

I have a few thoughts, and want to see where everyone here thinks I should start from.

1. Disassemble the pump to evaluate the condition. We get a lot of orange crap (I think it's rust?) in our lines, so the pump may be clogged.

2. remove the check valve and check the water depth. (I do not know the depth, or who tapped the well.) if the well has water
a. Take our hose and flush the well as best as I can.
Should I create a custom wand depending on the depth(Such as using a jet point on a piece of pvc pipe to scrub the well.
b. Find the pills that folks talk about to acid wash the screen.

3. I am concerned that the well pipe leaks. is there a way to re-line a well, or would I be better off simply setting a new well and capping off the existing well.

Thanks all for you thoughts on how to improve our well.

I am in the process of digging the pit and filling it with water, so the ground is easy to install the pipe. shallow well 15' deep 2" 3' wellpoint. question is should you come all the way up to the surface with 2" pipe or should you glue the 2" point to a 1 1/4 or 1" pipe and then come up to the surface or does it matter. seems like it would be easier to lift from a smaller diameter pipe.
I have two wells connected. 1st well is 1 1/4" 3' point at 14 ft getting almost 10gpm. put in second well and it is 2" 3'point at 15 ft depth and only get 5gpm but I have 2" pipe all the way up.

I live in a small town near Lake Erie, Ont. Our 80+ yr. old home once had a well under the floor of what is now our laundry room. There is still water in it, I'm told about 10 feet down. Could we tap into this water to use outside on gardens, washing cars, etc? Our municipal water is metered for consumption & sewage. If so, how would we go about doing it?

Hi! My parents purschased an acerage about 5 years ago! The owners had to dig a well first before it could be purchased, because the water was high in nitrates. the new well is 180 feet deep. the problem is it smells really bad like rotten eggs. it seems like it has gotten worse over the years. There was some smell when they first bought the place. Now they can not hardly stand to do dishes or bath in it. Someone said it was from shale. what is that? and how can we solve this problem? I live in Jefferson County (Wheat Ridge) Colorado. I purchased a home that has an existing well that is used for irrigating the lawn and a large garden. I don't see a permit for the well but it was installed in the late 1950's. The prior owner had a sign that said "well water" posted on a carport that was removed for painting etc. Many of the neighbors do have a similar sign. What are the requirements for posting a "well water" sign and what are the advantages and disadvanges of posting. The home is serviced by city water. Thanks Ron

I have a driven shallow well, 1 1/4 pipe in a 3" casing, The casing is 24'in ground. The well is 36'in ground. The water table is 15'. I have a shallow well jet pump connected. I can prime and flow water and fill up the holding tank to 60 PSI. It takes approx 2-4 mins to fill. After I let the system set for 1 hour or more, I loose the pump prime. I don't see any leaks.I have a check valve installed at the well pipe and the pump also has a check valve built in. I can reprime the pump by letting the tank pressure reprime the Jet. I will get air out of pump at this time. I have noticed that when pump is cycling, I can get air from the pressure side. I can't see where air would be getting in system. The tank pressure will stay constant and not bleed down. What am I overlooking?

Has anyone seen a 3 phase pump for residential water wells that runs from a Franklin controler and single phase power source? It must be a converter of some sort and is fairly new concept around here. The driller has gone strictly to this system. I will look at it this weekend and get more info. Just wanted to know if anyone knew anything about such a system. It takes a smaller pressure tank (15 gal)and runs more constantly than a standard pump system.

Okay, I'm sure this will sound silly to some of you, but I guess acting like I know won't get the job done. My aunt need her rental water pump hose pulled out of the ground. I'm trying to help but it's too heavy for me to lift. It's something like 148ft deep. I want to use a pulley system but have never done it before and neither of us have a stand to base the pulley on and it's located in the middle of the yard. (so there no trees to hook to) I'm not the weakest girl in town but I don't have the upper body strenth of a guy so I was hoping to cheat as best I could. Does anyone have the time to maybe show me a diagram or explain a system that would save my back and keep me from getting tired and letting go too soon? I'm only 26 and haven't don't this before so I thought someone might be able to help. And no, I don't have anyone I can call that would be able to come out and help in time. Seems they all are on vacation, work, or injuried for the next few days. THANKS, robin

Hi there
hope someone can help.
I have on some land I manage an old victorian water well. It is approx 16foot deep (from geology records) and has been out of use for many years. The well shaft is just under a meter wide and has stone walls.

The shaft is completely silted with compact silt, rocks, old metal etc and I have just managed to clear to a depth of 5ft with a large 'hoover'. However, I have hit a rocky layer and cannot get down into the well to clear the rocks and the 'hoover' cannot help. Having made it to 5ft depth water spurted up through the bottom of the well and is now permeating back through the walls. So it is beginning to flow again!

The idea is to restore the old well as an historic feature
on a community and educational feature on an allotment site where the well is situated.

Originally the thought was to provide an additional water supply for the allotmenteers to water their plots. While this would be great - we have turned up some victorian bits and bobs (clay pipes / bottles) and since the well shaft stonework is in excellent condition the historical important is just as interesting.

I have spent 15mths contact water and well engineers around the UK - and no one can help - unless I want to rebore a new well (which I do not)!

Any suggestions about how I can go about clearing the well further and restoring it with a cap and hand pump would be greatly received.

Thank you
Helen

I live in upstate New York (Saratoga Springs) in all sand (to my knowledge) and am trying to get a well for an already existing sprinkler system. I have dug a hole with a manual auger. Hit water at 10' below ground. 2" well point then driven down so that the top of the point is 3' below water level. Most I can draw is 5 gpm. Clears beautifully. No significant air. Using 1/2 hp Aermotor jet pump (supposed to be top of the line. I tested it in the swimming pool and got about 21 gpm with 6" head at 30 psi pressure), and the pumps seems like it can draw more if given the opportunity. When I drove the point further down (3 more feet), flow dropped significantly (<1 gpm). Pulled back 18", and was 5 gpm again. So I think I've got a fairly short vein (5' maybe). So, I am considering adding another point next to the first. My question is, how do I know it's not my pump that's the problem? If I were to "oversuck" with a huge pump on the well, wouldn't I draw down the well and lose prime? What is limiting me at 5 gpm? If the vein is just small and my pump can do better than 5 gpm, shouldn't I be getting air/losing prime? If not, does that really mean if I were to get a stronger pump I may be able to increase my well output prior to dropping a second (or third as I think I need about 12 gpm for my system) point? Thanks for your help!!

After posting the question I found an answer on Fred Duncan's very helpfull "Water Well Helpline" site where he said it should be 2 pounds ABOVE the low pressure point (42 lbs.). Vey replied to my question and said it should be 2 pounds BELOW the low pressure point (38 lbs.). Which is right?

As per my last post will 20' of 2" or 3" .010 screen with a packer on top suffice? I would like to continue with a 4" sub pump. Your response and advice is appreciated.

I removed a sand point that was 35' down the ground is clay for 5' then it is sand. The water in the 4" pcv casing is a 10'. When I pulled the point it had a build up of sand and mineral that looked like concrete. I cleaned the point with acid and it looks new and can see all the holes in screen when held up to light. I washed the hole out with a large compressor 120 cfm and got a lot of sand out. I think the casing is just 20' and I was wasting my time. ( but when you listen to old timers you can make mistakes ) Now what do you think I should do to restore this point? I would like to have a well that I can water my palms and a garden. If the water is not to salty would use it for the house short of drinking. I live in the Gila river valley out side Yuma and they say the sand runs deep. I have the time and won't mind buying all new so let me know if you would please. I have read your first pages and then I found this. So I'm sure you can direct me and help make my efforts pay off. Fred

After your advice to pull the well pipe I drove 45' even though I had hit a Artesian spring when I pumped water down but would collapse after about a hour.

I pulled two sections of 10' pipe out using hydralic jacks and a three-point hitch on a tractor I finally was able to pump water. I'm able to pump 14 gpm after running one hour.

How long does it take to clear? After running about a hour its clear but then if the well isn't pumped or used for light household purposes it becomes slightly cloudy. I pumped for about fifteen minutes and its clear again. Is this normal?

I have an old 2" jet well. It is 150" deep. It would not hold a prime after installing a new pump. A Well Repairman pulled out the inner pipe and told me that the foot valve, leathers and screen were not attached. He did not know how to proceed.

I don't have a good understanding of what is at the bottom of the 2" pipe. Can I drive the old foot valve, leathers and screen down into the well with new ones? If not is there a way to extract them? Suction, special tool etc.?

Hey guys, I'm going to be installing a sand-point (1.25" driven) well at my cabin, and I need some design advice. I've never done this before. The point will be approx 75 feet from the cabin and will be shallow(<25'). I'll have a pump house for the point and pump.

Here goes my questions, get ready I've got a bunch:

1)Should the pressure tank be housed in the pump house or in the basement of the cabin?
2) what about the check valve - pump house or cabin? before or after the tank, and pump?
3) I was thinking of using black-poly pipe with barbed fittings and hose clamps for the 75' main supply line from pump house to cabin, is that ok? - Should the black poly pipe enter the basement? Is it ok by UPC to have black poly pipe and barbed fittings within a house?
4) Re the pressure tank - should it be elevated? It appears to me that if I add a tank-tee to it the tee will be about 1" off the floor of the pump house - that seems weird.

I guess thats all for now - thanks

Gentleman,I have a 4" PVC cased well approx. 70' deep with a 1HP submersible pump set at 50'. Static level is approx. 18'. The well is over 15 years old and I have no idea what type screen is on it. Other than 32 grain harness and 600 ppm iron the well has performed satisfactorily for 10 years. I use a micronizer (Hydrocharger) and sand filter for iron removal and a softener for the calcium. I have been watering heavy due to drought in the area. Now to the problem. The micronizer is getting fouled with rock chips and the sprinklers are getting clogged with chips up to .035 thick and up to .375 wide. Last weekend I jetted the well and flushed out quite a bit of sand and chips, but no gravel. The water cleared up after jetting it for about 20 minutes with a 185cfm compressor. I then re-set the pump and sanitized the well. It continues to produce the sand and chips and has again fouled the micronizer. I would like to continue using this well. The sand and chips will no doubt take out the pump quick and the chips and sand are a PITA.

What are my options? Down hole camera inspection? Some type of 3" screen placed inside the 4" casing?

Please help.

recently purchased property with 4" galv casing. well has not been used for many years. i am told it may have a pump that broke off and dropped to bottom. the well measures 190 foot deep, and the white string line used to measure the depth came up pretty rusty looking. water level was at 66 feet deep. i plan to use an airlift system to pump out old water and after testing would like to use for 4 acre pond. i would like to clean the rust, maybe chimney sweep brush, any other thoughts or treatments. also felt like sediment in bottom as it felt soft with the weight i used. also thought that i could use the airlift pipes to vacuum the bottom sediment before placing well screen. any help or advise would be helpfull. thanks mike

I had an electrical storm take out power for several hours. During this time my well lost its prime and when it came back the pump failed. Sears has ordered the parts and while I am waiting got them to arrive, I am trying to ensure that everything will work correctly. I have a convertible deep well jet pump. The well has a total depth of 50 feet. The water level is at 12 feet. It has never run dry even with heavy pumping. The interesting thing is that the piping is two pipes to 12 feet(water level) and then a single tail to 46 feet. Is this correct? Sears has ordered a double pipe jet, but it seems to me that this would require two pipes to 46 feet. I don't mind getting the pipe if it is the right thing to do.

Used the Brady method to wash down a 2" pipe to 24.5' in pure sand Water level @ 18.5') ( 5' 1.25 pvc sandpoint)last year with the help of everyone here. Hooked up my redjacket 3/4hp jet pump to 4 zones all configured for 6-7 gpm. has worked wonderful for the past 1.5 months but now I'm getting full spray for 45sec then nothing for 45sec and this repeats for at least the 10 cycles that i let it go before shutting off the pump. We have been experiencing a bit of a drought and pulled the cover off of our drinking shallow well and it's the lowest i have seen it. I believe that i've reached the limit of drawdown and recovery for my irrigation well and am considering going down another 3'. That will put the bottom of the point at 27.5' and water level should be around 19.5'. Is it the static water level or the bottom of the point where the magical # 25' comes in for pull by the pump? Suggestions? and will the cycling kill my pump quickly?

My dad dug a well for watering our yard and it has dried up. He is attempting to remove the existing plastic pipe and jet but it pipe keeps breaking. He inserted a steal pipe into the plastic pipe but now we are not able to get the double half hitch to grab around the pipe so we can pull it out with the 8 foot hoist. His is about 12 foot down where we are trying to grab and the well is approximately 50 foot deep. It appears that dirt or rocks have the jet stuck. Do you have any suggestions on what we can do? We were told that the double half hitch should tighten up but we can't get it to work. It's had to get a chain to tighten up due to the links. We would appreciate any help you can offer and will attempt to dig a new well following your instructions this time. We are also looking into purchasing some aircraft cable to attach so next time we need to pull the pipes out we can pull the cable itself and not the pipes. Thank you.

After priming and pump working I open tap and get a spurt of water (quart or so) then nothing like it had lost the prime when after 30 seconds or so another burst of water, repeat and repeat. New pump. New foot valve and new veturi. All in a dug 40' well. Static water visible about 10' from surface. Could it be the pipes from the venturi down the well have been crossed and my pump is trying to work as a shallow well? We have pressurized the system with water from another system and there appears to be no visible leaks.

Thank you for this message board I have learned so much already but it does not seem that any of the post that I have read address my problem.
I am getting bursts of what I think are air in my water as well as what appears to be particles of sand or dirt as well. I bought the house in 1994 and it was built in the 50s. The well has 2' of 6" pvc sticking out of the ground and from what I remember at closing the well is about 30' deep. I thought that the old 1/2 hp jet pump might be what was causing the particles and air so i recently replaced it with a new 3/4hp jet pump. The holding tank is newer and had a 38lb bladder pressure when I replaced the pump. When I look down into the well I can see the 2 pipes that come out of my pump, it looks like they connect to a slide in coupling and then make a 90 degree down into the water. Is there a special tool that screws into that fitting so I can pull those two pipes up to inspect them or should I call in the pros????

Hello
Our house and well are one year old.
When using the garden hand sprinkler or yard sprinkler, they both clog up with sand from the well water.
How do we prevent this from happening?
Thank You for your time.

I sunk in a 2inch casing with a well point down 20'. I dropped a 1" pvc pipe with a foot valve on the end down in the casing and put on a pitcher pump. I use this on some property used for camping. We now have a trailer on the property and want to put in a electric shallow pump but like the idea of still having a pitcher pump as we would run the electric pump off a generator. Is there a way to pipe in the electric pump in the small well pit that I dug and then have a pitcher pump up farther and still be able to use both without priming them everytime I use one? Thanks
