科技根本上源自科學研究，我們最好是探討中國的科學在怎樣的土壤上發展。許多人都認為中國在‘自然科學’和‘社會科學’的水準都一樣不及西方世界。當然我一定會排除‘我們的智力不及西方人’的理由。科學精神當然是一個重要原因，這個大家已經耳熟能詳。
我嘗試說出另一個理由，中國人在建構他們的世界觀時，恰恰與西方人相反，因而不能如別人世界觀裡的因子有接受變更的動力。
首先科學精神是容許創出新觀念、新發現等等，推翻以前舊的一切，即是，西方世界其實默認這一刻的世界並不完美，並不全知全能，應當容許變更，最重要是沒有特定由哪個人/權力去改變世界，想變，就要在知識的基礎上進行。
但中國人習慣接受超穩定的社會，當然超穩定社會未必等如阻止變更，尤其是對大家有利的變更，但是超穩定社會的人，一定是惰性重的人，他們會覺得現狀此刻沒有甚麼不對勁，接受權威安排沒有不對勁，他們也會相信，世事按照舊路軌運行才合乎情理。
科學是人類在好奇、求知之下產生，在這個探索過程中，甚至會被認為是無聊，所以這種行為絕不會在惰性重的社會出現。
