I agree with David when he says the self is always changing and being affected by other people and experiences. However, I believe there are multiple real selves that depend on your environment. My different environments affect my decision- making and the different roles I take on. Right now, I would say I have three main selves, my self in Boulder, my self in Idaho, and my self in California,and I have developed these selves because these are the places I spend the majority of my time. In each place, I am in a different environment and interacting with different people, therefore it is necessary for me to put on a different performance and take on new roles in each place I am in. These performances are not strenuous to put on, each seems quite natural. The fact that I feel so natural taking on different roles in these different places leads me to believe that it is possible to possess more than one real self.
