Responding to Jen's message about the relationship betweeen performers and their audience - I believe both television, VHSs, and DVDs have broken down the connection between any performer and their audience. It is now too easy to stop, rewind, or fast forward many performances that we lose that connection. We live in world that is too fast and controllable. On the other hand, I would like to think that during a live performance the interaction between the performers and the audience would be greater because we lose that control making Goffmans's terms of roles, face, stage, etc. more meaningful.
