there are so many factors that can play into ruining the connection between the performer and the audience. back in the day, i used to take dance classes from wade robson, and in those days they were small and intimate and you were actually able to dance. he was still super talented, had toured the world, was still younger than i was (and always will be), but it hadn't all gone to his head. now, if you take a class from him - you take it with about 150 other dancers, and you don't dance you stand in a room and *watch* him dance because it is so crowded. all relationship is lost - he became too popular and wasn't willing to set limits.
i stopped taking his classes because they lost the purpose. there is no relationship between the student and instructor nor between the performer and audience.
