Kathryn I totally agree that Erikson's theory is much more applicable when it comes with working with children that are dealing with a lot and going through some tough times. I am a teacher and not a counselor, but I work with children who experience a lot of negative things. I think that in counseling and teaching it is more important for a child to resolve any issues he/she is having in a stage/crisis rather than a moral issue a he/she is having. I feel that if a child moves through Erikson's stages successfully or resolves any negative outcomes they might have had, their moral development will follow. I think that having good identity development will automatically lead to good moral development.
