The Waiting Room Wednesday 5th September -- The Waiting Room (- music what makes you wiggle a bit -), 23:57:23 09/03/07 Mon

Hello You.

Have you ever felt embarrassed listening to one-hit wonders or pop gems of yesteryear? Fear not. Your favorite Indie superstars are giving the OK by joining in together for "Guilt By Association", a collection of songs by today's most exciting Indie talent re-interpreting their favorite guilty pleasure pop songs. Petra Haden delivers a soaring acapella version of Journey's anthem Don't Stop Believin'. Will Oldham/Bonnie 'Prince' Billy turns Mariah Carey's Can't Take That Away into a bittersweet synth ballad. Jim O'Rourke, who produced albums for Wilco, Beth Orton and Joanna Newsom transforms the Spice Girls' ballad Viva Forever into something that wouldn't have been out of place as a take out of a Beth Orton session.

Lets all wallow, then, in our guilt, this Wednesday Evening, 5th September, 10pm-Midnight (BST) on The Waiting Room, via www.errorfm.com, and enjoy these remembered gems, indie-style.

Tracks:

1. Petra Haden ”Don't Stop Believin” (Journey)
2. Devendra Banhart ”Don't Look Back In Anger” (Oasis)
3. Mark Mulcahy ”From This Moment On” (Shania Twain)
4. Luna ”Straight Up” (Paula Abdul)
5. The Concretes ”Back For Good” (Take That)
6. Jim O'Rourke ”Viva Forever” (Spice Girls)
7. Goat ”Sugar We're Going Down” (Fall Out Boy)
8. Will Oldham ”Can't Take That Away” (Mariah Carey)
9. Woody Jackson Orchestra ft Money Mark
”Love's Theme (Love Unlimited Orchestra)”
10. Porter Block ”Breaking Free” (High School Musical)
11. Mooney Suzuki ”Just Like Jesse James” (Cher)
12. Geoff Farina ”Two Tickets To Paradise” (Eddie Money)
13. Casey Shea ”Chop Suey” (System of a Down)
14. Superchunk ”Say My Name” (Destiny's Child)
15. Mike Watt ”Burning For You” (Blue Oyster Cult)

plus, aside from this plethora of goodness, we also get time to squeeze in some usual live, nonsensical chat & catch up, as well as un-related cover versions by 4 more wonderful tuneful types to get your ears all-a-poppin & your hearts all-a-gladdin.

Spoiled, I hear you say? You, we are confident, are only just beginning to understand the full potential of said emotion.

Come, then, drench your selves in our fancy.

x Hope Eternal & one half of Drunk Country

So... who's creating what around here? I'm looking forward to having my own kiln shortly, so I'll be kept busy with some clay work.... Any other clay artists / potters / sculpters here?

I'd love to hear what YOU like to create...

the expressions for life. -- raj lall, 08:34:41 05/06/06 Sat

sometimes in the ordinary life an expression of love makes it a fairy tale.here is one such expression:

My Autumn Love !!!

Days follow days...
The rolling stream of hours...
Crumbles the bank of Being.

Under a fantasy of blue hopes/
We tried to live with love...
And yet! Deep inside!!
Something is frozen to shove .

The monotony of living ...
The black and white relations...
Without any colors to stir us
No sunshine of emotions...

The deadly chill of nothingness...
Eating out the songs of soul.
The child in me is somewhere lost-
Life playing a dicey roll.

Where have we forgotten ...
the spicy dreams of rainbow.
Barren frost of reality.
casting a dark shadow.

Trudging the lonely path of life...
Only your dreams walk beside...
In the kaleidoscopic colors of fantasy...
Warmth of your feelings reside...

The velvet touches of passion...
Sending shiver in spine...
The silent language of eyes ...
Speaking 'love! you are mine'.

Some where in those distant folds ...
Silvery sparkled full moon night...
A mountain river flows silently...
Down the dark forest from height.

Holding softly the moon in arms...
With the stars shining above.
My heart says aloud !!
I found my autumn love!!.

Forum Chain Story -- Spider, 03:52:29 03/03/05 Thu

Does anyone remember the glorious years of the forum stories we used to have here at Hybrid Studios?

Well I do... and I believe that the 'Cyrus Blaze' story is in the online Library, if you wanna see what I'm talking about... and it's about time a new story was started?

Anyone game?

The rules are.... you follow on the story from where the last person left off, and you have to include the words left for you in your part of the story.
say the first person wrote a short section, followed by
*colour, siren*
the next person would have to use the words 'colour' and 'siren' somehere in their bit...

Got it? Here's the first installment - using the 2 words from above....

______ FORUM-CHAIN-STORY______

"It's not the colour that's worrying me... it's just..." she faltered to a stop, her gaze stuck firmly on the contents of the bag in front of her.
"It's the one you asked for" came the rather short reply.
A siren screamed past the open window and off into the distance, a trail of screeching tyres and frustrated shouts echoing after it. Whether she flinched at the siren or the contents of the bag wasn't sure, but as she backed up the heel of her shoe snapped and she lurched sideways, sending the bag leaping up in the opposite direction. It landed with a soft squelch and seemed to shudder a little....

_____________
The 2 words for the next section : *banknote, sun*

[> Re: Forum Chain Story -- amber, 23:49:27 03/24/05 Thu

A quick flash of light seemed to dart across the window, maybe the sun had been reflected on her watch face as her arm spun upwards, but it caught the attention of a small boy sat outside a cafe just across the road.
And his sudden movement caught my eye as he leapt up knocking the edge of the table and spilling the contents of a small jug over the table. He thrust what looked like a banknote or a slip of paper down on an empty plate and swinging a rucksack over his shoulder headed away from the cafe.
I turned my attention back to the bag. (I could have sworn it still shuddered slightly...)
The girl was still on the floor. Not a movement. Not a sound. She looked asleep, but for her left leg which protruded sideways from her body, the shoe half off, the heel bent backwards.
I moved towards the bag, but a hand grabbed my shoulder and pulled me away....

*******************
The 2 words for the next section are : shrub, canvas

[> [> Re: Forum Chain Story -- saturnia, 16:36:29 09/22/05 Thu

that small shrub had me fixated, bastard, i tried all ways to get round it. the girl was nursing her leg trying to tie a german banknote around it, i sighed,
after a while the shrub began to speak in its own language, moving slightly, i was able to pick up on its patterns as it tried to communicate with me.
eventually i thought we should find a quiet place, maybe a hotel room later, we could drink water because he..i was sure he was male would not like alcohol.
i ondered if i should bring my gold stillettos but decided against it

word left
alchohol goldstillettos

[> [> [> Re: Forum Chain Story -- spider, 06:54:17 10/27/05 Thu

[But what about the word 'CANVAS'?]

"The alcohol must have been affecting me more than I realised at the time... when I came too in a cold alleyway all I had with me was a torn receipt and an empty bag. [I couldn't quite remember what I'd done with those blasted gold stillettos... or was that a dream...?]

The rain was driving down hard now, I was wet and confused and should have been miles away hours ago.
I stumbled to my feet and stretched tentatively, looking up and down the alleyway I made my way back to the main street. I could hear shouts and sirens bouncing across the buildings but I couldn't see anything unusual until I turned the corner...

Open Mic nights -- Emma, 14:58:48 10/11/05 Tue

Hello guys. I'm a poet (aren't we all!) based in Cardiff. Does anyone know of any poetry workshops/groups or open mic nights in pubs, halls etc. in Cardiff? I haven't got a car so can't travel far outside the city. I was told a pub called Dempsey's does poetry nights? My stuff's a bit, well not rude, but does include the odd 'naughty' word so a church hall is maybe out the question. Any help would be great. Thanks. Good site by the way.

Porthcawl Elvis Festival '05 -- Steve, 15:45:23 05/21/05 Sat

The Porthcawl Elvis Festival is now the biggest event of its kind in Europe, and last year attracted over 5,000 music lovers to Porthcawl from Dallas to Denmark.

This year's Festival will be taking place from Friday 30th September to Sunday 2nd October, and will feature Kraig Parker from Dallas, acknowledged as the world's No 1 Elvis tribute artist. Kraig will be backed by The Royals Tribute Band, his regular Las Vegas showband, and some very famous guests. His manager is the legendary Charles Stone, Elvis's former tour manager, who will have many memories to share with us.

We'll also be featuring The Sweet Inspirations, Elvis's gospel backing singers, who accompanied the King for eight years.

From closer to home, Martin Elvis from Malta will be making a welcome return, as will Swansea's own rising teenage star Jelvis, who made his debut at last year's Elvis awards. We'll also be seeing Colbert Hamilton from London again, who wowed audiences all over the town.

Texan authoress Sandi Haynes Pichon will be following up her success at last year's book launch to release her newest book of photographs taken when she knew Elvis, and will be launching it at the Festival too. Elvisly Yours will be selling Elvis mementoes and souvenirs, making this the place to be for Elvis fans.

We're bringing over many famous characters who knew Elvis well, including leading members of the legendary 'Memphis Mafia', who accompanied him everywhere, and they'll be telling tales in our chat interviews.

The events take place in pubs and clubs all over Porthcawl, and the main shows sell out very quickly at The Grand Pavillion, so we would urge anyone planning to visit to register at our website www.elvies.co.uk.

Last year we featured over 30 Elvis acts and hope to feature many more this year - maybe even one or two from your region.

Steve Maitland Thomas
Festival Manager
Porthcawl Elvis Festival '05
