Ray, I doubt you have quoted Anwar correctly.

Ahh....don't forget that we only get to hear the narrated version of Anwar's speech - which already has been heavily edited due to time constraints on national TV.
This means that the words were contributed to Anwar - but as you say, may not be what he said. "Democracy" must have been utilised somewhere, but how it ends up being reported may be different?

Now you know the meaning of when politicians say "taken out of context".
I stand corrected if Anwar did not say that democracy is alive in Malaysia. Wonder how he got off being found not guilty then? Hmmm.....
