Ah Doc, that's why I am taking advantage of this excursion for a durian feast in Penang. I have a list of the variety we will be tasting and it does include the 3 varieties that the Capt. mentioned. For the Captain's info, the Penang farms are reputed to be where most of the original durian varieties come from in Malaysia. Some of the farms are said to have trees 70 years old and still bear fruit. The aroma, flavour and taste are suppose to be absolute durian heaven.
The soil, rainfall and slopes on the west side of the hills are enough to produce natural fruit year after year without the need of fertilisers or chemicals.
How can I miss such an oportunity when its put in my way and the timing is perfect on 12 July when I am in Malaysia.
I do agree with you on the Hokkien Mee and other mee - it will be quite a change form our Aussie mee (nowadays freshly made by Vienamese factories in Sydney).
So we will arrange all that a bit later on in June.
