Subject: He sent our son a letter

Spencer has sent 3 letters to our son since November. All with promises about what he wants to do and is going to do. One letter apologized to our son for being a terrible dad. I will not read these to my son and will put them away for when he is ready to see them, which I am sure will be when he is older. The time will come though one day.
Anyhow, at first the letters made me cry but this last one, I just thought, "yeah right". And the "feelings are not fact" phrase came to mind. Of course it's what he wants, but will he ever do it? I cannot nor can I let my son, listen to his words.
he know what he has to do and until he does it, there will be no contact. It is as if he doesn't exist. So far its been kinda difficult since my son talks about him all the time. But in time I hope he can let go as I have.
The broken promises can really wear on you after awhile especially a little boy who for some reason blames himself, blames me, and thinks we just don't have enough room here for his dad. Where he got that from, I don't know, but it is getting harder now to explain things to him.
Anyhow, what do you think about these letters? Cindy? you are an ex user, what do you think? ANything for him to just hang on?
