I learned in counseling that you cannot do for an addict what they can do for themselves.

You are handing him everything each time out of love and expecting different results each time - for him to stay clean when he leaves. You must let him do this on his own with minimum help from you. Love and support is good, but not financial support. You need to have boundaries and they should include him helping you with bills, groceries, buying his own tools, buying his own shampoo, deodarant, finding his own job. Make sure he helps with the cleaning, laundry, etc Just be there for the emotional support and love him til he's blue in the face.

That is all the advice I can give.
