This is a more common phenomenon than people realise and has happened for thousands of years throughout many different cultures and been attributed to many different things...the old incubus and succubus myths to name but one! There is a known medical condition that is a form of sleep paralysis that can produce these symptoms. However I am not for one second suggesting that you are not having a genuine paranormal experience, but that this may present an explanation that may help you come to terms with it. It is actually this same state of temporary paralysis that some researchers are linking the alien abduction phenomenon to...it seems that almost every culture throughout the ages has experienced it in some way, and that each has attributed it to a different cause according to the time they live in. Even if the scientific explanation is the best one it is still only theoretical as to how and why this state occurs. There is an excellent book I can recommend to yourself and any others experiencing phenomena of this kind, the author's name eludes me at present but the book is called 'sex & the paranormal' and is a fascinating read. Like I said it may not be a gospel truth but it may help some experiencers come to terms with what happens and if nothing else live without the fear.

All the best.

PS - I am currently looking to join a ghost/paranormal research group in the NW of England, anyone reading this post please feel free to email me any details of any group/club/society you are a member of. Many thanks.
