Brechin nodded to the siblings in greeting, his own pelt ruffled by the icy cold breeze. His breath rose into the air. A bitter cold night. Only appropriate for an execution. His eyes locked onto Nikira, and a hint of regret split through his mind. Though none of this showed on his outward features, he sighed, feeling guilty already for what he was ordered to do to her...
Finally, from the midst of the Balkar Camp, two forms emerged. One larger, well- formed figure trotted over swiftly, bowing to Brechin. Gallia followed Nightfall, bowing as well. Brechin nodded slightly and then turned to address all of them. "Now then," he said. "We're all here. Follow me..."
He began to lead them away into the woods, his gait swift and graceful. Gallia and Nightfall had to trot to keep up with his easy walk, and they fought to do so. Completely unaware of the danger they were walking into. Brechin's eyes scanned the trees, and he growled as he saw Frarrow flying overhead.
At last, at a little after midnight, he came to a partly frozen lake. The forest was silent, and they were a good ways away from the camp. Brechin turned to see that they were all there. Then he looked to Nightfall and Gallia.
"It's time. Gallia, come here by the lake," he said. He picked her out furst, not wanting the lady to have to watch her friend die before her. He took a breath, eyes locking onto hers. They blazed, and Gallia shifted.
"Brechin, why are we here?" she asked. Brechin shook his head.
"I'm sorry, Gallia. Drekka's orders..." With that, a hideous snarl emerged from Brechin's throat, and his auds flattened. His fur bristled madly, and he had transformed into a horrible beast, hardly recognized. He leaped. Maw opened up and his pearly teeth glittered for a split second in the moonlight before they sank into the throat of Gallia. The she-wolf barely had time to cry out. Blood sprayed out, and stained the snow. The corpse of Gallia fell to the ground, crunching in the snow, which steamed from her blood. Brechin turned his head round and looked to Nightfall next. His fur was soaked and sprinkled with red.
Nightfall snarled, sending Brechin a betrayed look. "You fiend!" He prepared to fight, and he rushed at Brechin in a frenzy of rage. His teeth met the other Balkar's, but Brechin was swift. He thrusted Nightfall onto his side with a twist of his neck, and, in the second in which the wolf's neck was exposed, his jaws came down upon his former comrad.
The kill was swift, and Nightfall did not even cry out. Soon, the snow had been turned into a red slush as it had earlier that day. And again, two bodies lay lifeless, the short tale of execution red-written in the snow.
Brechin licked the soaking blood from his muzzle nad looked to the siblings.
"Nikira. Come," he said. Then he added, "You are not to be executed, as they were. I promise you will live."
He had a look in his eyes of heavy guilt, but he was fully willing to carry out Drekka's orders.
