Subject: Why do we have so many shoes in the doorway?

I have noticed that we have two special places for shoes in our house. One is a set of handy shoe sized shelves on the wall near the downstairs bathroom and the other is in the doorway to the living room. One is tidy, safe and allows easy retrieval in the mornings. The other threatens to break ankles, blocks the way between rooms and means shoes cannot be found when going out.

Why is this?
