Date Posted: 04:14:58 05/17/03 Sat Is Port really thriving?Ask the committee and they will say yes,but ask a local and they will argue the point.9 locals played firsts last year, all year, compared to two this year and didn"t they make the finals?sure strengthen the side but why replace it?these current players from Sydney might win the comp, but is it worth winning when your home grown players can"t get a game and begin to leave for other clubs. Why did the committee remove their message board from their web sight?simple, there were too many complaints about how the local players were being treated.Yes they are getting big crowds, but when the season is finished and the title is won or lost and all these players have been paid and are gone, what then? Will we try to give our locals in reserves a run in firsts or will they have already disappeared, trying to get a run in firsts at another club.I hope other clubs are not being run like this or the local juniors might as well play a different sport altogether.Go reserve grade and eighteens you guys are the real Port.
