We have the same problem with our Sharpei/Labradore mix. His name is Harry. Harry we were told is allergic to probably alot of things which cause a rash on his skin. He also has a horrible odor. In fact it is so horrible, our friends and relatives have all told us how bad it is. We tried changing his food type and shampoo we were using but the rash persisted and the odor too. The problem is much worse in the Spring and Summer though. So we have decided the rash may be caused by just about anything outside or several things. Our vet suggested we give him a dose of Benedryl for the rash. It did seem to help a little but not completely. The vet gave Harry a shot of steroids which really helped the rash but was fairly expensive. We look forward to Fall and Winter when the problem goes away and have decided we will always have a scratchy, smelly dog but we wouldn't trade Harry for anything. Good luck
