I like your point about Mark Twain. It makes me giggle. I can just see him picking up an Austen novel again, "Ok, maybe I'll try it for the fourteenth time..." Hehee!

I remember as I was reading it that I was identifying with Prudie, although right now I couldn't tell you why. It's not like I had a childhood like hers or anything. Or, you know, that I speak French. But there was certainly something of myself I saw in her, whatever it was.

I had much the same reaction you did about the Jocelyn thing. I was uncomfortable. Although I think I was supposed to be. I am surprised and saddened to hear that your mom said it was common but am happy there is so much more awareness now.

I also liked the ending with Sylvia. **THIS IS GOING TO BE A SPOILER, SO SKIP IT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW. SORRY, THERE'S JUST NO WAY TO WORD IT WITHOUT SAYING IT!*** I was seriously grinning from ear to ear when she got the letter from Daniel, although I wanted to smack her upside the head when she said that she thought the only reason he was coming back is because he found out that no one else wanted him. I totally disagree with that! He came back because he realized what he wanted, what he needed, and he realized he'd made a mistake. The very fact he was in therapy shows that. It wasn't like he slept around and found out no one else wanted him. It's that he realized that he DID have happiness before, and wanted it back. ***OKAY, THE SPOILER IS OVER NOW. SORRY.***

I liked the whole structure of the book--I was trying to describe to someone how very Austen-ish it was.

I still like Grigg. I liked him at once, even when everyone else was looking down on him.

Anyway, that is all.
