So I read Em's thought about my writing "scholarly" papers and I had to laugh. I haven't looked back at my college papers for a whle, and there's a good reason.

A few days ago I was asked to teach AP English next year (we've had a couple people in the department leave and I've been moving up in the ranks quite quickly) and my first thought was utter terror. I haven't read anything that deeply in a while. I don't think I even read that deeply in college. Even though I'm terrified I said yes, because it's also exciting too. Much better books than _A Separate Peace_. I have to go on an expedition to the book room to see what we have, but here's my question for all of you: If you had to teach AP English, what books would you do and why? (A confession: while I took AP English, I never actually took the test, because at that point I knew I wanted to major in English anyway). So what books would you choose?

PS. Elisa--A while ago you mentioned buying a house, but that there was a problem with the inspection. How's that going?
