Kiersten,

This may sound weird coming from someone who is supposed to be an educator, but education is overrated. A lot of times it deals with theories and abstractions which, though I love, have sometimes very little to do with the real world. (Sorry, part of this is coming from the fact that I joined an AP English email list, but most of the messages so far seem to be arguments over politics. Yawn.)

That said, if you want to quit, quit! Will the credits go away? If, say, you decided you wanted to pick it up again in a few years, you could, right?

It's okay to quit! If its not the means to the end that you want, then why waste the time and the money? You can still learn about literature and theater by reading and attending performances for your personal edification. I point to one of the best examples I know, the beautiful and talented Elisa. I was a bit surprised when she announced a couple of years ago that she wanted to quit law school, but she had great reasons and, well, she's Elisa. When I see Dave struggling over the bar exam and look at Elisa (with a fabulous husband, great career, and a new house to boot), it's obvious that she made a wonderful decision.

So pray about it, go to the temple, read your scriptures, ponder, and then go with what feels right. God doesn't care how much education you have. Your family doesn't care, we don't care, we all love you just the way you are and just want you to be happy. If the prospect of finishing doesn't make you happing, then don't.

That said, only you can make this decision. Good luck and remember that we love you and you're brilliant.

PS. Ever thought about teaching high school? It's actually kind of fun, and you've got the perfect brand of sarcasm and wit that will keep them in their place. You have enough credentials that I bet you could at least sub this fall if you're looking for something to do while you figure it out...I just think you'd be good at it.
