Yeah that would be better than silly tack-ons. But to me, Kenshin's use of different speaking styles is far more than just being polite or not being polite. His two ways of speaking represent two entirely different personalities, and I don't think people would get that if the only difference was politeness. They would probably understand "Ok now he's pissed... and now he's not," but I don't think they would get the impression of distinct personalities. Maybe your suggestion about making his polite speech more archaic as well would do the trick, but the thought of hearing Kenshin spouting off thee's and thou's makes me cringe. Hmm, yeah I can definitely see the possibility though. I guess I'd have to see an example. Care to translate an episode of Kenshin for us? ;)
