Summary: Melody meets Dawn’s family. ************************************************************************ Melody and Dawn laughed together as Dawn opened the door to her house. Melody was thrilled. Hanging out with Dawn had made it seem like she wasn’t so alone. Now she was going to get to meet Dawn’s mother and sister. “Come on,” Dawn said. “My mom’s not home from work yet but you can meet my sister.” They headed upstairs. They stopped in the doorway and Melody saw a girl she assumed was Dawn’s sister making out with a guy. Dawn started making gagging noises and Melody tried hard not to laugh. Buffy turned at the sound of her sister’s gagging and glared at her. “You know,” Dawn, said. “My friend Sharon’s older brother knows a girl who dies because she choked on her boyfriends tongue.” “Go away, Dawn,” Buffy growled. “Look,” Dawn said. “I just wanted to introduce you to my friend. Her and her mom just moved to Sunnydale.” Buffy noticed the girl standing next to her sister for the first time. She remembered what it was like to be the new girl in Sunnydale so she decided to make nice. She walked to the door and introduced herself. “Hi,” she said. “I’m Buffy and this is my boyfriend, Riley.” She was looking Melody in the eye when she said this and Melody caught her thought behind it, Too bad it’s not who I really want for my boyfriend. Melody was a little shocked at that thought since they had just been making out but managed to say, “I’m Melody.” Buffy looked at the girl in front of her. She looked normal enough but there was something about her that made Buffy feel strange. She shook it off, though. She figured it was just guilt about her thoughts. “It’s nice to meet you Melody,” Buffy replied. “Now, Dawn, why don’t you and your friend go to your room?” With that she shut the door. “See how nice my sister is?” Dawn commented sarcastically on the way to her room. “She seemed nice enough to me,” Melody replied. “I think it would be nice to have a sister.” “That’s because you’re an only child,” Dawn explained. “If you don’t have one you want one and if you do have one you want to get rid her.” Melody just laughed and looked at Dawn. Whatever she had been about to say went right out when she heard Dawn think, Especially when your sister’s the Slayer. She had been wrong. It wasn’t Dawn who was the Slayer; it was Buffy. She was surprised. She had been expecting someone closer to her age. “How old is Buffy?” Melody asked. “She’s 19. She’ll be starting college again in a couple of days so she’ll be back in the dorms soon. I can’t wait,” replied Dawn. They heard the door open downstairs. “Come on.
