I just found a site that let me change the name of the okeefe site and make it alot shorter. It is www.okeefeschool.cjb.net Ihe old one still works.

Well,we are back from our trip with fabulous showings from the O'Keefe school.Erin Murphy won a 10th place medal in her light round.She was 1 point away from the overall placements.Well done Erin!Ian K. was recalled in his heavy round,and was only 4.5 points away from the overall recall!Congrats Ian!Maire Wynn got called back in her heavy round and danced a lovely hornpipe.Great showing for you girl!And finally,Emma K. got recalled in her light round after having to dance first out of 140 girls.That was a fantastic accomplishment,well done Emma!All the other kids,Amanda,Briana,Sara,Aislinn,Sara,Alison,Elizabeth,and Chris,made me very proud.There was a lot of buzz about the O'Keefe school over in Ireland.We have arrived!!!!!
Again congratulations all!

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all your support and good wishes while we were away. All the O'Keefe kids did well. The competition was amazingly hard and we got to see some fantastic dancers. It was great to see people we've met from Ireland and it was fun to see so many Americans and cheer on "our own". The place we stayed was great and the venue was terrific - no crowds, great seats, and the best stage anyone has ever danced on. We're looking forward to going again in April as well as next year! Can't wait to see everyone on Monday at class and I hope all those still traveling have a safe journey home. I think everyone should start saving your money NOW and plan on going to the All Irelands next year!

Here we are in an internet cafe in Killarney! Congrats to Jenn!!!How wonderful!!!Wish we could have been there to celebrate!
Killarney is great. Weather is very cool and very rainy. It can be sunny one moment and then pouring rain and sleet the next.
The venue for the competition is huge. The stage is really, really big.
Chris danced last night and did a great job. But no recalls.
Emma danced this morning and recalled in her light shoe round.
Going shopping. Wish you were here!

Let's try to keep a running list of things we like/dislike about the various feiseanna we attend in an effort to try to make our feis better (as if that were really possible!). If you looked at the syllabus for this year, you'll see that some changes have been made already to make it better - like splitting the competitons by single age groups. Our feis is coming up in a few months and it's not early to start thinking about how we can make it work smoothly. Of course, the more helpers we have, the better it will go, but besides getting more help, what kinds of things work or don't work? If you see write a problem, please also take a minute to think of a solution we can use to make it better at our feis.

Here is a link to the web site put out by the US Olympic figure skating association for dealing with the effects of jet lag. We are traveling across five time zones, so you can expect to have to deal with the effects for a few days. The guidelines on the web site offer ways to minimize those effects and help them pass more quickly. Check it out!

Like-
-50% placement,
-dancers who placed called up and then placements announced,
-approx start times-just so you don't wait 7 hours to dance,
-nice trophies (not plastic)
-medals that have Irish dance theme or feis name
-good feis food
-clean bathrooms
-lots of vendors
-feis sweatshirts/t-shirts
-good feis musicians (not that guy with the electronic keyboard who sounds like a carousel ride)
-plenty of seats for those who need to sit

Dislike-
-Waiting for hours after competition is done for results,
-Announcing results so people/dancers can't hear names or schools,
-Not having a listing of the competitors & their schools

-two hour shifts running a stage, and then someone comes to replace you for a while.

The shorts are done and I picked them up yesterday. Some dancers got them at class Thursday evening. I'll bring them to All-Irelands practice on Saturday morning too. I'll tag the remainder for pick up at the studio.

Thanks to everyone who purchased them. We made a little profit for the school and they're so cute.

How about everyone wearing them to the feis on Sunday?

Anyone interested in purchasing the new O'Keefe practice shorts will find order forms at the studio after Thursday, 12/5/02 (the next time I'll be there). An example of the shorts is at the studio now. For those of you who haven't seen them yet, they are forest green jersey (color matches the O'Keefe jackets and pants) with gold block letters spelling out "O'KEEFE" across the back. Taking a clue from Kathy, order forms need to be completed in full indicating size along with the payment.

Sizes available:
Youth: Small, Medium, Large.
Adult: X Small, Small, Medium, Large, X Large

Price: $12.00

It will take about a 10 day turn-around time to deliver the shorts so I'm not sure that I can get them before Christmas.

Before I head off to visit family for the day, I wanted to let all of you - whom I spend more time with and consider my dance family - how thankful I am. Your outpouring of support and encouragement last weekend was terrific. We cheered and cried and shouted and hugged and I am thankful that I had so many great friends to share it all with. Thank you for making it such a wonderful weekend for my children.

Please come to the party tomorrow to help celebrate the many successes for our school over the weekend. We have FIVE world qualifiers, our first New England Regional Champion, many solo winners, lots of placements in the traditional sets - several in the top ten, a few teams placed and the two most important reasons to have a party:
We did it together and IT'S OVER!!!!!!!!!!
So bring a snack, bring a drink and come celebrate Tuesday at 7pm.

Over the last year or so I have been witness to a group of kids that are dedicated, disciplined and encouraging to one another. The sense of O'Keefe pride was amazing this weekend! John's talent and his love of these kids was so evident at this event. Congratulations to everyone; every single kid danced from their heart, parents who held on to one another and to their sanity and to John who inspires great things just by his love of it all!!! Can't believe what a difference a year makes!!! We are pleased to be a part of something wonderful.

I want to congratulate everyone for all of their hard work for the past few months. You all did awesome and the hard work payed off in the end. Everyone worked so very hard for what seems like months and it was all so worth it to see all the O'Keefe dancers up there on the stage. The sore feet and sore legs were worth it for all. Hope to see everyone tomorrow, but I'm not sure we can make it. If we don't, know that we wish we were there. John, thanks for giving us all so much of your time. It all worked out for the best. The dresses looked great and definately made everyone feel and look more like family.

Everyone did so well this year and I am so proud to see how hard many of you worked for this weekend. I've watched many of you work so hard and see how well you have improved this season. Whether you placed or not, you all danced wonderful and deserved to be there! I would just like to congratulate Jen's little sister Shannon on placing third in traditional set competition. Thanks to Theresa and Kathy for all their efforts in getting dresses and sweats so dancers could proudly display where they were from; to Candi for the sign reminding everybody we were there; to all of the parents who pulled together loose ends and got dancers to all of those practices; and most of all - THANKS to John and all of the dancers who worked so hard and showed all of New England how Irish Dancing is done! Does anyone know any great stretches for the knee area ? Aly has been dealing with pains in the knees with all the dancing. We are doing the eptson salt baths to help, but I would like to get her in a good habit of doing some great stretches to help her out. Thank you.

I found a place in Killarney for a very good rate. It is a group of homes for rent, for about 220 or 240 euros a weeks, electric and heat extra, fully furnished with linens and towels etc. The homes are located 1/2 mile from town, and about a ten minute drive from the All Irelands. I have sent in a reservation for my family. If anyone else in going or is interested in staying at the same location, there are a few more homes available. They are going fast, so you will want to make a decision asap. The web site to get more information is:

The people are very nice to deal with and responded to my questions very quickly. The flights are a very good price now too, and must be booked by Nov. 13th or so. Look at the Aer Lingus web site for more information.

There are several families that have not met their commitment to pay the balance owed for the school dress. The dressmaker will not guarantee that you will have a dress for the Oireachtas, if payment is not received,ASAP.
The next fitting for dresses will be in January. At that time Full Payment will be expected and the dress will be a bit more expensive due to the cost of the embroidery.

PLEASE SEND A CHECK TO MARGARET ASAP> to guarantee your dress finished on schedule.

Anyone interested in ordering a school jacket or pants can find the order forms hanging in the studio. Please be sure to fill out the order form compeletly - noting whether you want pants or jacket, child or adult size, and include payment. Orders will not be accepted without full payment. The jackets and pants should be in by mid November so we'll have them for the Oireachtas. We are not able to have the school name embroidered down the length of the leg, so we're having the logo put on the front of the leg, near the pocket. If you have any questions please contact me directly. This is the only time I will be placing an order until next year.
