Jayne and Simon attacking the guards was one of the best portrayals of violence ME has done yet. It went on so long, I could really sense Jayne's desperation and willingness to be brutal when necessary. The fighting on Buffy is always so stylized and sanitized, it's over clean and quick. If Buffy ever shows emotion during fighting, it's boredom that she must deign to stake yet another vampire, sigh.

And as for the HoB's killing the guards, I now know what Joss meant by "humans scarier than anything you can put in latex." I kept gasping out loud, "oh my god!," which never happens during Buffy or Angel. Considering those shows are large part horror and violence is their bread and butter, most of the latex monsters (with the exception of Dinza and the Gentlemen) are cardboard and cartoonish and not even remotely scary. But if we ever meet the Reavers, I'll probably pee my pants.

The glowing brain-liquefying stick even beats out Lindsay attacking Angel with the sledgehammer for most shocking scene of violence.
