Subject: Righty to lefty? OMG

David I have a question regarding the swing not the 1irons, wanted you opinion because I am all screwed up now. Messing around in a simulator that we do fittings, one day I decided to swing lefty. I had a happy accident and hit a 180yd 6 iron I thought no big deal a fluke tried it again, 190 again 200 again 195 again 210. was stunned.
I can normaly hit my 6 iron righty about 165-175.

I was so much more flexible it was insane.
went to a driver yeap righty the same as usual ball speed of about 145-150, went lefty 153-161 ball speed. OMG???

now I am completely at a lost I hit the ball so much farther lefty that I feel like takig this year off from playing and start making the change to lefty?

I know what you must be thinking, But I went to the range to check my distances and they were almost the same with a different radar and a range finder..so I know the simulator was not acting up.. What do you think???

I have been testing this lefty swing for a month now and the distances are consistantly longer than me playing righty..

Pedro,

The reason is simply that you do not have any ingrained bad swing habits when you hit left-handed. In other words your body is swinging the club in a completely natural and powerful manner as nature, and not golf instruction, intended.

I say go for it. If nothing else, start working some left-handed swinging into your regular practice. Someone posted a while ago (I can't remember their name off the top of my head) about playing 9 holes righty and 9 holes lefty, and how instructional it was for their swing. I've heard about some guy on the Canadian Tour that plays odd clubs righty and even clubs lefty. I have one lefty club I found at a used sporting goods store just to test the concept, and now I'm looking to buy a few that fit me. Personally I'm not very good at hitting the ball where I want it lefty (which could just be because the club is way off of my specs) but the act of swinging lefty is a refreshing break and makes my normal swing feel much more fresh and flexible. I say you should definitely keep practicing this, and if you develop enough control to go with that distance (and the money for some more clubs) then I wouldn't see anything wrong in playing both sides on the course or going completely lefty.

Also, 210 with a 6 iron?! Dang, dude. My distance is well above average, but that is just prodigious.

Pedro--
An easy way to solve your dilemman...you should play a match--your lefty self vs. your righty self. The winning side becomes yur dominant side!!!

Dave,
I bought the clubs and they're evrything you said and more.
I posted before regarding left handed woods, and after hitting clubs that fit re irons is there anyone who can adjust the lie angle of my driver 3 wood so I can shorten the shafts or can lefties be ordered with a custom lie angle.
Thanks again for the spectacular irons.

Will,

Although there are loft/lie bending machines that can be used for woods, there are extremely few clubmakers who have the expertise to bend any golf clubs other than irons. I would suggest finding left-handed wood clubheads (components) with the lie angles you desire and then having a clubmaker build your woods for you.
