- Why no negative feedback anywhere on the internet? -- James, 11:00:25 02/09/10 Tue
I want to start by saying that the concept makes sense to me, the golfer who likes to have fun and is yet to break 100.
What throws me off is the lack of any negative feedback. It reminds me of the saying if it seems to good to be true, it probably is. I can understand why there wouldn't be much negative feedback on this site, but why not anywhere on the internet?
I work at a private golf course in Southern California. I've spoken with all the PGA Pros here and they all have the same reaction; they think that the low irons would work fine but that the higher irons just wouldn't work well.

- A few questions about the 1-iron golf set -- Bob, 23:34:51 01/11/10 Mon
I understand everything about the 1-iron concept, except a couple of things ...
(1) having shorter than normal 3-4-5-6 irons makes sense, but why is having longer 8-9-PW-GW-SW-LW beneficial? Surely all of the reasons that apply one end of the set - also apply to the other end?
(2) If I have a set of 1-iron clubs that is 39 inches long, and a set of clubs that is 33 inches long ... how can they both have the same head weight in the irons? Surely the 39 inch set would be really heavy in feel - and the 33 inch set really light in feel? Isnt having the same head weight as big as compromise as having standard 0.5 inch increments in shafts? Is the head weight standardised for cost reasons?
(3) What is the MOI difference between a 39 inch set and a 33 inch set? Surely one has an advantage over the other due to the constant head weight?
Thanks in advance ...
Bob

- Question about body makeup -- Jim Benjamin, 11:48:01 02/05/10 Fri
David,
My WTF is 36". I have a question about this length relative to my body. I am 6'2" but long waisted. From the waist down I'm like 5'10" and the waist up I'm like 6'4". My inseam is 29" but my sleeve length is 35". Does this make a difference in how club length for me would be determined? The club I seem to hit the best is my 8 iron. When I purchase clubs I get them 1/2" longer and 2 degrees upright.
Thank you,

- Taken the Plunge... Might be a good candidate to follow on the forum -- Steve M, 09:58:31 02/05/10 Fri
I'm the guy with a very short strong swing.
Stumbled across the 1-Iron Golf clubs only 3 days ago and today confirmed my order for a complete set of irons and the #3 wood. Got confirmation a few minutes ago that they're leaving for South Africa today - that's service!
My situation is probably a bit different to most as my game has dramatically improved over the past 4 months from core strengthening exercises, improved fitness and practice. As far as I can see, most people buy these clubs when they're going nowhere with their game or going downhill. Over the past 4 months my handicap has dropped from 15 to a 10 and I've played 2 games in the high 70s, mainly as a result of good driving and short game but not much between. I only make 2-4 GIRs per round as I often don't even attempt a GIR if I'm over 170yds out, rather choosing to play short and straight with a #7 or #8 iron into the fairway near the green, chip in, then putt. Never play a wood off the deck and even battle with my hybrids.
I just have a feeling that I could do even better if my irons were more consistent over 150yds resulting in more GIRs to putt for birdie more often.
Has anyone else bought these clubs when their game is on the up? What has your experience been?
Regards
Steve M

Hi David,
i am wondering what your thoughts are on the resurgence of persimmon woods. In know that these clubs are more difficult to play but with the shorter shaft length they may be a good compliment to your irons. another question, As someone who likes to play hybrids as opposed to long irons (3 and 4), what should I be looking for in terms of length of shaft and material composition?
I am really enjoying my 1irons and have noticed a definite improvemwent in accuracy.

- Short backswing with lots of power -- Steve, 07:44:08 02/04/10 Thu
Hi, after reading the various blogs I'm almost ready to buy a set of 1 Irons, however I have a question. I'm 50 and have very tight back and shoulder muscles as a result of an illness which restricts my backswing to 50-60% of a full swing, however I can still hit my 8 iron 140m and my driver between 230-240m. I get this distance by relying on timing and strength (brute?) - and not losing my balance. When I'm swinging well (lower body still and balanced) I hit a pretty good 8 iron and drive very straight. I'm a 10 handicap and everyone is always surprised I can hit so far with a very short backswing.
Unlike most decent golf swings which start with smooth progressive acceleration from the top, I start my downswing with "great gusto" which severely loads the shaft, hence I've always been fitted with a stiff shaft on irons and woods. My driver swing speed is only between 100 - 103mph, however if I play a regular shaft the club face stays open at impact resulting in a weak fade.
My short powerful swing doesn't work well on lofted wedges as I hit my sand and lob wedges very short compared to other irons, hitting them maximum 60m and 45m respectively with full power as they fly very very high. I should get 90m and 75m I'm sure. However I hit my Pitching wedge 105-110m.
So, given the above situations:
1. Will I be able to hit the 1 Irons with their Proprietary Shaft Optimization or will they lag and keep the face open at impact?
2. Will I hit the wedges correct distances relative to the other irons?
BTW, My favorite (safe) club is my 8 iron.
Thank you
Steve

- 1st golf round with my 1 irons -- Juan, 11:11:09 01/30/10 Sat
Hi all,
Today, i played my first round with 1 irons.
it was not a typical round, as i thought a short course was reserved, my warming time was consumed in solving the situation and, also the wind was horrible (20kts)
So i was on the 1st, with no woods (i was supposed to play a pitch& put) without hitting any ball...
I played the 3 iron in every long shot (from tee and fairway) and keep the ball in the fairway 90% of the times (for me, it was like if it is a different game!)
The level of confidence that i found, just removing insecurities due to changing clubs was AMAZING
I played every club (before 1irons, i have NEVER used a 3 or 4 iron
I played the worse putting in the last years, due to wind and eventhough i made my handicap (29) (although i normally play less)
Given the circunstances, i am sure i can drop 9 strokes in 9 holes.
To sum up, i still need to dial in into the 1 irons (distances etc...) but i am very very happy about my new clubs.
Tomorrow i will be buying the rest of the clubs!!!
Thanks, Dave, for your product!

David,
Do you have thoughts on golf balls? I remember reading your thoughts about consistency: using the same ball all of the time vs. playing with various balls found on the course. What do you look for in a ball? What should we all be looking for? Since our clubs help our shots go straight, would you suggest we play with a higher spin ball for control on the greens? Anything you mention would be appreciated.

- which is the relationship between Tae-kwon-do and 1irons? -- Juan (Juan Belon Gallego), 11:55:27 01/26/10 Tue
I used to practice martial arts for sometime in the past. On taekwondo, one of the ways to achieve power is through "lets call it countermovements", for instance, a right punch will be help by pushing the right shoulder forward AND by pulling the left shoulder back.
As 1 iron swing is rotary (instead of sway or lateral movement) i found useful to think in the same way as taekwondo:
Backswing: pull right shoulder back while pushing the left.
and, more important in the downswing:
Pull the left shoulder back while pushing the right shoulder to the forward.
(everything with the fix center, of course)
For me, it helps avoiding lateral movements and allows me to achieve a more powerful impact.
Hope this helps somebody, more than confuse!

- Consistency and 1 Iron Golf -- Charlie, 14:09:45 01/21/10 Thu
Couple questions I guess. Once you get "dialed in" with your 1 Iron clubs, does the need or use of a golf GPS go away?
I guess my question is for some one who is very in synch with thier clubs and knows that they will hit shots within a 10 yards distance most of the time.
Are there any rules of thumb for comparing driving range distance and the distances realized when playing an actual round of golf? My common sense would say that most will be more consisent on the range since you are simply grooving your swing with fewer variable on the course such as lies, obstacles, and hills.

- 1iron driver -- steve, 20:09:52 12/19/09 Sat
I have recently got the full set of irons and the 3 wood. I have stuck to the playability tips and am starting to get the hang of it with the 3 iron. I like the 3 wood and hit it very well.
I have a conventional driver which is 12 degrees and fairly easy to hit but I am considering getting the 1iron driver because I like the idea of the same set up for all clubs in the bag.
I just think having a conventional club in my bag that I will hit 10 to 12 times a round at my home course gives me a chance to slip into a different set up than the rest of the clubs in my bag.
If the 1iron driver is as good as the 3 wood I would change.
I would like some opinions from other 1iron users.
Thanks

- Putter Shaft Lengths -- Michael, 19:54:45 01/13/10 Wed
David,
Now that I received my new driver and 3 wood this week, my entire bag top to bottom is composed of 1 Iron clubs with the exception of my putter. This is significant as I have always had many different manufactures represented in my bag. I may never need to purchase another wood or iron again unless my wedges wear out. I love my 1 Irons.
Do you have any thoughts about shaft lengths on putters? Is there a "perfect putting posture" that could be created with a shaft length that could be determined by doing a W-T-F measurement as you have instructed us to do for our irons and woods?
In addition to shaft length (if you do have an opinion on this), what other thoughts do you have on putters that you would be willing to share?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Sincerely,
Michael

- New Zealand customer -- Franklin, 08:11:31 08/09/09 Sun
I'd been perusing the 1 Iron GOlf website for 3 months and decided these were the clubs for me. The only obstacle was the shipping ($120USD) and customs/taxes to ship to New Zealand. I emailed Mr. Lake to inquire on this point and he told me that regardless if I bought a brand name set of golf clubs in New Zealand at a local golf store or ordered them directly from the USA I would still be charged the same shipping and duties. The only difference was that the local store would bury these costs in the sales price. Not fully believing this I priced a set of Callaway X-22 irons at three locations in New Zealand with the lowest price being $1,010 in USD. I also priced the same set in a number of golf outlets in the USA and the price was $700 USD. The golf stores in New Zealand were charging $310 USD more than the US stores do so Mr. Lake was more than correct on this point.
I ordered the Used/Demo complete set of 1 Irons plus the driver and received them in practically brand new condition. Of course I didn't read through the Playability Tips that came with my order but headed straight for the range. The clubs look and feel great but I didn't burn up the range on my initial outing. Afterwords I studied the Tips thoroughly and the next day went back to the range. This time things were better but I knew from the Tips that it would take a few trips to the practice range to really get my timing down plus get used to using the same swing and a center ball position with each club.
To make a long story short, after five range trips with no round of golf in-between everything began to fall into place. On the sixth trip it was like somebody flipped on the light switch and I was hitting the best shots of my life by far with every club. I am amazed how high I hit the #3 iron and still get 200 yards carry. A guy next to me at the range thought I was crushing a #5 iron based on the trajectory and when I showed him it was a #3 his jaw hit the ground. He hit a few shots with it and was in disbelief at his distance and shot height. He told me that he couldn't hit a regular #3 iron to save his life (btw - you'll be receiving his order shortly).
I want to thank you for a great product and fantastic customer service.

I purchased my set of 1-Irons fully intending to switch out the shafts for an extra-stiff flex True Temper shaft because my swing speed is so high. After one trip to the range I found that the shafting that 1 Iron Golf uses is magical. I just can't believe that all of the shafting garbage that I've heard over the past 30 years is just that - garbage! 1 Iron Golf has developed a method of shafting that blows me completely away because it works great for anybody with any swing speed. I know first hand because I bought a set for my wife and she kills the ball and loves the clubs using the same shaft that I have in mine. Like 1-Iron says, it's in the golf club balance and nothing more. By the way, I'm a 6 handicap and going down with my 1-Irons.

I've really been crankin' these irons since I got them last month. After 30 years of golf I'm not used to hitting any irons as far as my 1-irons. I'm flying my #3 iron past the 210 yard marker shot after shot. I've picked up about ten yards with every iron not to mention the fact that my miss hit percentage has gone down to practically zero.
It took me about a week to get past the mental break-in period that's pointed out in the playability tips but once I got past this the rest has been heaven.

The other day while looking at my 1Irons (it's winter here... that's about all I can do with them right now) got me thinking... they're all the same length, same weight, same lie angle... Why aren't the head sizes the same? I don't have the fairway woods... but I noticed the head sizes are different as well. - Christmas present for me -- Roger, 07:44:36 12/14/09 Mon
Since I'm tired of getting ties for Christmas and having to take back half of what I get I decided to treat myself to something I really wanted this year. I ordered a full set of irons plus the #3 wood and driver on December 1st and received them on December 10th. Great customer service and excellent workmanship on the clubs! These clubs feel very well balanced and are the perfect length for me - about a #8 iron length (wtf = 35.5").
I got the emailed Playability Tips the same day I ordered the clubs and read through them a dozen times so that I was ready when the clubs arrived. The first day at the range I only took my #3 iron as the Tips suggested and after about fifteen balls getting used to using just my #8 iron swing I started tagging shots high and long. I'm guessing about 190 yards carry. Once you get the hang of it you don't miss-hit any shots. The next day I took my #3 wood and crushed it right off the bat followed by the driver the next day with the same great results.
The balance and feel of these clubs throughout the swing is extraordinary and is something I'd never experienced with other set of clubs I've had. I can work the ball easily and when I'm hitting a straight shot I can drop it on a dime. They are also great for pitch shots around the green and chipping using the same stance and set-up as a full shot.
I'm in my early 60's with a high single-digit handicap but with these clubs I know this will go down. I'd highly recommend these clubs to anyone who wants to improve their game.
Roger

After doing a lot of research about single-length irons, I made the decision to purchase a full set of the 1-Irons and wedges. They arrived Friday, 11 Dec. WOW! Was I ever impressed!!! Excellent packaging, fast shipping, and they rate an 11 on a scale of 1-10! They are built perfectly, and have a great feel, weight and length-wise (my WTF is 34-34.9) they are all the same length as my favorite 9-iron (36"). Everything about these clubs says "success". Per the instructions, I took the 3-iron to my local indoor driving range (we have 2 feet of snow and its 9* outside) and honestly couldn't believe I was hitting a 3-iron! After a few warm-ups the club swung easier and smoother than any iron I have ever hit - really! Ball hitting was no problem since I just put a mental image of my trusty old 9-iron in my head and swung happily away! The mid-size grips are fantastic - easy to hold and control. And the steel shafts are far superior to my old graphite clunkers. I would just like to thank all the great people at 1-Iron Golf for building such an awesome golf club! Keep up the great work!

- New Groove Rules -- Frank, 11:22:49 12/10/09 Thu
I haven't been on the Forum for a while, so if this subject has been run into the ground, I apologize. I really enjoy my 1Irons, but in a few weeks the PGA and the USGA, and the R&A are going to make all our clubs obsolete with the new groove rules for clubhead faces. Oh, I know that we can go on using them for at least 14 years at all "lower levels of play," but that's not really the point, is it? I beleive most golfers want to know that there's a standard by which we can all practice and play and gauge ourselves fairly against universal rules and one another. That's why we don't go out and buy non-conforming drivers and super juiced golf balls, etc. Having a single standard is what gives a good round of golf some satisfaction and meaning. But now there's going to be two sets of rules, one for the pros, the Opens, and championship levels of play, and one for the rest of us. Forgive the cynicism, but what I sense here, is a collusion between the governing bodies and the major manufacturers to sell more clubs. Within a year, the nine to ten thousand people who play in U.S. Open qualifying will have to buy new clubs (not to mention the British Open)and many thousands, maybe millions, of dedicated golfers will consider it necessary to buy new clubs now, or sooner than they planned. Since you have to change eventually, why keep practicing with something that will be banned eventually? I was going to add the 1Iron 7 wood to my collection ( I adore the fairway woods), but I don't know if it meets the new cross-sectional area rule. I'll probably just wait till the dust clears and buy a whole new set of something I can afford. I just think the PGA and the USGA should know that if they're going to keep jacking people around in this manner, it's going to have a very negative effect on golf.
Sorry about the length of this post -- Hope everyone has great Holidays. Frank.

I'm very pleased with my 1-irons. I hit my 3 iron about 170-180 meters (180-190 Yards)carry. My 3 wood about 200- 210 meters ( 220 Yards ) of the tee. I hit my driver about the same as my 3 wood?
I hit my 3 wood almost perfect every time. And it maskes my think: What if my driver had the same length and lie as my 3 wood.

- Nervous about trying 1iron -- Steve, 20:16:27 11/29/09 Sun
I'm looking hard at the 1iron clubs and I like the concept. A couple things concern me. I have seen it stated several times that the club length is based on the w-t-f measurement and that it usually ends up being the same as your favorite club. I'm way off in this aspect. I am 6'0" tall w-t-f is 37.5 which if I am right would put me at about a normal 6 iron length with the 1irons. My favorite club is my 54 wedge-100 yards which I am deadly accurate but as the clubs go up my accuracy and consistency decrease, especially with the 7-6-5-4. If I have never been able to hit a consistent 6 or 7 before why would 1irons be any different.

I haven't seen it mentioned but the consistent 'lie' on all sticks, gives a greater variation as to which club you use for the 'bump and run' type shots- I've even used the 3 iron, which I'd never do with a conventional set. Everything about these clubs just boost my confidence.

- Progress with my 1Irons -- Alex, 09:55:35 11/24/09 Tue
After a few weeks with my 1Irons i finally got what i was looking for!
I guess my new swing is working now and i am very confident with my irons!
Very good distances and i only "misshit" (skulling the ball or hacking into the ground) one out of 20 balls and only if i am staying downhill or uphill lies! I am planing to buy the 1Iron driver in spring, i think i could drop some strokes over 18 holes when hitting a driver longer then my 3 iron off the tee. usually i get around 185 meters (~205 yards) and i am very confident with it but 250 yards with a driver could be possible for me i guess.
after all those rangetrips i finally got em working for me as i expected! i really dont understand why i didnt purchased this irons a lot earlier!
thanks david for those great irons!

- Compare apples to apples -- David Lake, 19:15:40 08/07/09 Fri
There is no standardization in the golf industry as to loft angles. This means that one manufacturer's #7 iron might be the equivalent of another manufacturer's #6 or #5 iron. Many golf club manufacturers will make their irons with "strong" loft angles in order to give the illusion that their golf clubs produce increased distance. You have heard golfers say it a thousand times: "I can hit this #8 iron a lot farther then my old #8 iron". The fact is that they can't. What they can do is hit an 8 iron with a 35º loft angle farther than an 8 iron with a 39º loft angle. When we speak of distance increases using 1 Iron Golf clubs we are referring to the increases you will get as a result of consistent solid ball contact coupled with the dynamics of clubhead design and shaft optimization. Typically, our customers will hit our 39º loft angle iron farther than their old 39º loft angle iron for exactly these reasons. You cannot compare one manufacturer's numbered iron with that of another manufacturer; you have to compare loft angles. It just comes down to a comparison of apples to apples.

- The Adventure Continues -- Carlos Tomas (Back to Square One), 08:21:31 11/14/09 Sat
I tried to find my original thread "The Adventure Begins", but it seems to have disappeared. I even tried the search feature, but the thread was nowhere to be found. Even a "manual" search of the archives failed to turn it up. So I'll begin a new thread.
In short, I've decided to invent my own swing. After years of taking lessons, buying almost every golf gadget imaginable, with a garage full of clubs and devices, and never improving one iota, I figured I have nothing to lose by just trying to figure things out for myself and forgetting everything I've ever learned. The only connection with the past I'm keeping are my 1 Iron Golf clubs, 3-PW, GW, SW, LW, 3-wood, and driver.
I played 9 holes a week ago with a woman whose swing was unlike anything I've ever seen. She swayed around and the clubhead seemed to fly all over the place, but she always made solid contact with the ball, and it always went straight. "Go with what works," she said. "Who cares what it looks like? Results are what counts." I'm paraphrasing, but you get the idea.
So with all that in mind this last week I went to the driving range every day and experimented to see if I could find anything to help me develop the consistency missing so far from my game. I experimented with ball position, forward and back, near and further away. I tried different arm positions, swing paths, feet widths. You name it, I tried it. And yesterday it all started to come together.
My new swing feels very different than anything I've felt before. And I'm finding I can duplicate the feeling, and the results, swing after swing. It's not perfected yet, but I'm striking the ball well and getting shots that are straight, or mostly so. Way straighter than in the past. And when I see shots going in the desired direction, as David has said before it gives me confidence.
One thing is for sure, the 1 Iron Golf clubs, when struck solidly, have a feel unlike any other club I've ever used. I'm sticking with them, even though I've more or less thrown the swing tips out the window.

- Received my new clubs -- Alex, 09:15:10 11/09/09 Mon
Today i got my new "used/demo" set. I was that much impressed when i checked my clubs and they all look BRAND NEW !! After work i went straight to the range with my #3 iron as recommended. I topped the first 15 or 20 balls straight out but then i hit a great shot - incredible far (never hit a #3 before only #5 iron from my old set) since my #9 was the only iron i hit almost 90% very consistent i never used another iron on the course (of cause i hit woods and wedges but no irons from 3-8)
After a full bag of rangeballs (40) hit very solid with my new #3 i called a friend and he came to our home course for a short 9 hole round. ( i know i should not play until several range sessions but i was feeling like playing a round would lead to more success.)
i left my woods and driver in my car and only took my new irons and a putter out on the course. it was amazing!! i played incredible, never had a better round in my life! (i know that i'm still a bad player but since i started golf 6 months ago, this round would have impressed you also :D ) my friend harry didnt believe i was playing with him..
i still have a lot of work on my chipping/putting but since i didnt miss 3-4 strokes each hole like i used to my score dropped like crazy :)
thanks a lot David for your phenomenal clubs! i will post further progress soon.

- 1iron results -- K. W. (3rd times the charm), 17:33:18 11/11/09 Wed
This is my 3rd time to own a set of 1 irons. Due to no fault of the previous 1irons, I chose to go another direction. This time, I have really stayed with the program as suggested by David. I am getting very satisfactory results this time even with the the 3 iron which I found impossible before.
As a note of interest, I tried to hit my old fairway woods and regular length driver after honing the 1rons and found it impossible due to my new swing. Fortunately, I also have a Perfect driver which is 42 inches and a set of nike CPR hydrids which are also much shorter. By playing these clubs with my new swing and ball position, my game came together nicely.
It certainly makes me think that the 1iron 3 wood and driver would be even better for me. Hopefully, I would be able to obtain more distance than I am with the Perfect Club driver and Nike CPRs.
Has anyone else had the experience of having touble with your old driver and fairway woods after being introduced to the 1iron swing?

- impressive increase in distance and divot question -- Han, 07:03:08 11/09/09 Mon
Hi all,
I've been using 1 irons for about 5 months or so and have had mixed results, but mostly good. I'm a 10.5 at my home course, a fairly easy muni.
anyway, starting about a couple weeks ago, i started getting some really scary improvements in distance. I say scary because I was flying over greens with clubs I thought I'd be short with. For example, yesterday, I shot the best round this year I've had, a 78. I hit GW to an elevated pin from 142 and was about pin high, another SW to an elevated pin 135 away and was about 4 yards short. Overall, I'd say I'm at least one club longer but sometimes two! If i didn't start with a triple bogey on the first hole, I could have broke my personal record.
One consequence of my change is that I'm getting back to a divot in front of the ball. It's not a big piece of sod, but probably about 4 inches long and not terribly deep. But in David's swing tips, he recommends a burn mark. I've never really been able to reproduce the burn mark that he talks about, but anyway I'm wondering if anyone out there has had the same thing happen. Is that non-divot thing critical?

Got my new clubs on Tuesday, hit a bucket of balls that afternoon with my three iron. every thing was short. Knew I had to play golf on Thursday for my sons birthday. Practiced in the backyard net Wednesday morning and hit balls at the driving range that afternoon, everything about 40 yards short.
Played 9 holes on Thursday and very satisfied with my Irons, my 3 iron length jumped out to about 180 yards. did have some trouble with my sand and lob wedge, but that just needs practice. I only used my irons and a putter. Left my woods and driver at home. This the best set of irons I've ever owned. They play great.

Hit a few shots with 3 iron like David says. First 20 or so were pretty good considering I had not hit a 3 iron for years up to 170 against a wind. Hit some balls in the morning and again in the afternoon and one thing I did notice that I did not have a sore back which would happen normally if I was using my conventional clubs.

- How to take the grip and what is the best grip -- Jeff Pasierb (Help), 22:09:34 11/02/09 Mon
Ordered clubs on Monday night and received on Saturday day. Upon inspection all I can say is very impressive. I immediately read David's book and re-read the playability instructions. Then on Sunday I re-read both again. After practicing the set-up,posture,and swing on both Saturday and Sunday, I decided it was time to take the 3iron to the range. I hit about fifty balls with different lengths of swings and rest and analyzation in between. The contact was very crisp but straight shots mixed with quiet of few hooks/pulls. I went back today with the same approach and results. I was trying different grips and grip positions. Before I go further I need to know how to take grip and what the best grip would be? Do you take it out in front of oneself or with club on ground behind ball or down at ones left side? I figured out taking my grip was closing my clubface. One other thing in reality would my distance from ball be the exact same with every iron? I believe so and how far are the hands from ones body in the set-up?

I came across the 1iron website on October 11 whilst on another site and clicked into it and read a lot of the information. It seemed to make sense so I sent emails to David Lake who answered all my questions. I placed an order on October 28 for used demo irons and a 3 wood with the free freight deal that was running at the time. I find the prices of the clubs fairly reasonable compared to the brand name gear which can be quite expensive in Australia. I am due to get the clubs in 3 days time which is trackable through Fedex.
The service has been really good, all my emails being replied to the same or next day.
I have had a variety of golf clubs over the years and not found the consistency that you need in golf.
I will post progress when I get the clubs.

- First round with 1-irons -- Martin, 10:35:29 11/01/09 Sun
Hello everyone
I just purchased the 3-lw set and a driver. I got them Tuesday, and went straight to the range with my 3 iron. What a disappointment, I could not hit it straight or far. Went back Wednesday with the same result. But then Friday I started to hit some straight long balls. Not every shot but sertenly a big improvement ( it was a matter of finding the right distance to the ball).
Today I played my first round (I know it's to soon ). I did not make a great score but that was due to my chipping and putting, not the 1-irons. I had so many great iron shots from fairway. I used my 3 iron 3 times, and every time the ball flew about 200 meters (218 yards) and straight. One of the shots was a bunker shot, I landed on the green. I will go to the range this winter and get real comfortable with my new irons. Cant wait till spring. I know I will lower my HCP then.
Thanks for a great product.

- "1-wood" -- David, 10:12:43 10/27/09 Tue
I recently purchased the 3-LW set of irons and I have to say I am very pleased with them. The whole idea of irons with the same characteristics is something I have always thought would work.
My next purchase (in the spring) will be woods for my set. I will be getting the 3-wood and possibly 5-wood (depending on my success with the 3 iron).
I have been looking at some of the threads regarding the old steel driver and I had some questions about it. How long is it and is it built to the same specs as the other woods but with a stronger loft angle?
I understand that they are not available for purchase but if, as I understand, the steel driver is built to the "wood" specs then I would purchase one should David be so kind as to make them available again.

On page 42 of the 1 Iron golf book it says that the shaft should be pointing straight down from your belly button
to the back of the golf ball. If that is the case isn't
the ball just slightly forward of center? If not then the
hands would have to be slightly ahead of the ball at address causing a slight forward press.

Hello everyone, just like me it took me a bit to get used to the 1iron system, David tells you the truth now its up to you to decide what to with it. Just how ironic it is, there was a question about sport specific fitness for golf? David answered with there is no such thing just do a full body work out, Well was doing the golf fitness thing for a few months this year and gained some flexibilty but not much gain, Just went to a full body work out like David says and the gains were so much better, My swing was a bit tighter and had plenty more power, than when I was doing the stretching way too much, Good call David.

The club heads are quite nice and have the look of durable quality steel. The face and top line are very nice (I typically play blades. My biggest and most pleasant surprise is the club length. I am 5 feet 10 inches tall with a W-T-F of 34 3/4 inches. My irons are as long as a standard 9 iron. I can hit my 9 iron solid all day long. I also received a 3 wood that is a little shorter than a standard 7 wood. I love the size and shape of the head (it reminds me a bit of a Callaway Hawk Eye VFT from the top. The Driver is about 43 inches and simple but it has a deep face so I feel I can bomb it. The grips are a different style and look than I am used to but they feel as if I have a very secure grip on them and at the same time they won't tear my hands up. I will up date you all after a session or 2.

An email that we received:
Dear David
An informative newsletter (SwingTips XVIII), as I had been puzzling as to why your wedges have been giving me such tighter results than my previous ones, and an unprecedented success ratio from bunkers.
I have had the 1-Iron clubs for twelve weeks now and I like EVERYTHING about them. I have never hit such consistent, straight and ever lengthening drives. My fairway-wood play is totally transformed. Iron play improves week by week. The percentage of pars and now even birdies continues to rise. I am successfully playing shots that I would not
have dared before.
Of course I am still, frustratingly, having about three wipe-out or triple bogey holes per round wrecking my totals due to false muscle-memory lapses. However I am gradually clearing out the old instructional clutter and accept that it is still early days with much work still to be done. I have even just bought an electric trolley to ease the back-troubles.
So I am really enjoying using the 1-Iron clubs, making such visible progress and looking forward eagerly to each round. All thanks to you Mr. Lake and your exemplary company.
Sincerely,
Ed H.

Hi David.
I have been useing your 1-iron combo for a couple of years now with steady progress, I have been improveing so well that my brother is keen to give them a go, but here is where the problem starts, he is left handed and I am right handed so he cant give them a try, he does'nt play very often, and will only use his irons because he cannot hit any sort of wood well, he likes both woods and irons and thinks they could make him improve, but I have told him you dont do left handed woods, so how does he get round this problem, if he has to get woods from somewhere else, surely the concept of WTF goes out the window, he will have to use two swings, one for the 1irons and then another for the woods, do you have any suggestions on the best way to proceed with this. Thanks Terry.

- First 2 weeks -- Louis, 11:33:41 10/12/09 Mon
I received my clubs about 2 weeks ago and thought I would share my experiences since then. Before purchasing the clubs, I was on this forum reviewing everyones experiences for almost a month before taking the plunge. So, hopefully, this posting will help someone who is also considering the 1 iron clubs.
As I already emailed to David, I was immediately impressed with the quality and finish of the clubs, and I absolutely love the grips.
My first time out I followed the "tips" and went with the 3 iron. Because I anticipated a length of a "conventional" 8 iron based on WTF my measurements, I had been exclusively hitting my old 8 iron for about 2 weeks before receiving the new clubs. My new clubs were just about the same length (a little less). The swing transition was easy but it took about a bucket of balls before I started to see my 3 iron fly around 185 yards in a very consistent direction. It was wonderful to be hitting my 3 iron so consistently with good distance. After a time (different practice session), I moved to the other clubs with the same consistency and yardage, and eventually brought out the driver. Again, after a bucket of balls, I was hitting consistently around 250 yards and STRAIGHT! This was about my same yardage with my old driver.
Yesterday I was again at the range and now started to feel like I could pick up the swing speed a bit. For the first time, I hit my driver and landed the ball just short of the far fence on 2 bounces. The fence is 300 yards away! Overall, this was by far the best practice session that I have ever hit with my driver.
I also hit my 4, 5, 6, and 7 irons and felt incredibly confident with every swing. Not having to adjust the "swing plane" and set-up for every iron, especially going from one extreme (3 iron) to another (PW), is amazing.
I am taking David's advice and waiting another 2 weeks to become completely comfortable with the clubs before playing a round. But so far, I have to say that I am completely delighted with the clubs. I also purchased the wedges and 3 and 5 woods. They also feel very comfortable to swing...and CONSISTENT!
I hope this helps anyone who may be considering a purchase. I will continue to post any new revelations and results of my first rounds of play.
I am one happy golfer! Both with the clubs and the great customer service.

- My experience -- Roger, 07:48:48 09/13/09 Sun
I first ran across the 1 Iron Golf website last November and have visited it regularly ever since. I didn't pull the trigger on a set of clubs until last month and I got the used-demo full set of irons plus a #3 wood and driver.
I followed the Playability-Tips that came with my clubs to the letter and took four trips to the driving range before playing a round of golf. As David Lake states in the Tips it takes a few of these range trips to get used to using the same swing and set-up with every club and at first I lost some distance like he said you would initially. By the third trip to the range I was starting to really get the feel and timing down for these clubs and had gained back my old distances plus a few extra yards. The biggest change I noticed was that I wasn't miss-hitting any of my shots where I could always expect about 20% miss-hits with my old long irons. By my fourth range trip I was hitting the shots of my life - high, long, and straight.
My first round of golf was an eye-opener as I was nailing my shots straight at the pin but was hitting the ball too far. I went down one club on all my approach shots and everything dialed in. I ended up matching my best round of 77, something I haven't been able to come close to for a number of years.
I can't begin to tell you how excited I am about my new golf game and my 1 Irons. I can only say thank you Mr. Lake and 1 Iron Golf.

Okay,After several months of reading reviews about one iron golf , and speaking with David I am ordering a set of irons. The concept sounds good but am still a little sceptical that these irons are going to perform. I have spent a small fortune on game improvement clubs.Talormade,Nike,Cleveland,Titleist, and yes even mizuno.I also have taken lessons, and spend a fair amount of time on the range. My problem is distance gaps between my irons, and the ability to hit long irons consistantly. So ,I hope these clubs are all there supposed to be,so that i will not be disapointed once again.I will keep updating my exsperience once my clubs are here.

- Outdriving the taylormade R9 -- Tom, 16:19:15 08/24/09 Mon
Just wanted to let everyone know about some fun I had with my buddy today. He just bought the Taylormade R9 adjustable driver for about $400. He was all proud and showing it off to everyone. I then proceeded to knock it about 15 yards past him all day long, using my 1iron driver. I also hit all but 2 fairways, and those weren't by much. Accuracy is more important than distance, but having both is awesome. By the way, I am 5'7'', 160lbs, 37 years old. My buddy is 6'1", 205lbs, and 30 years old. I wish you could see his face. As I always say, buy the clubs, they will change your game!

I just received the Used-Demo set of irons I purchased from you and I'm very impressed with the excellent condition they're in. Some of them look like they've maybe hit a few balls at most while the others look almost brand new. The irons feel great and I'm looking forward to improving my ball striking through your instructions that came with my set.

- Best round ever today -- Tom, 11:12:07 08/15/09 Sat
David,
About 2 weeks ago, I asked you about trimming my clubs because my wife incorrectly measured my WTF. Well, I ordered new grips, trimmed them how you told me, and went out and fired a personal best 77 this morning. Every shot was right on target, and I could set up with the ball further back like I wanted to. I have been playing golf for 25 years, the last 1 with 1irons, and I have never played so well as today. Thank you for all your help, you are a golf guru and a hall of famer in my book. I hope you get some recognition for the help you have given the average joe. I turn 37 on Monday, and thanks to 1iron golf, I have many years of good golf ahead of me.
Again, if any of you are considering buying the clubs, do it. Then go to the range, do the work, and start enjoying the game and taking your buddies' money.
Tom

We received the following email from a customer in Germany that I would like to share:
I take the opportunity to tell you that both irons and woods are great and that in particular the irons have given me new confidence. I have read your book with great interest and found many things in it which confirm my own conclusions, although I do not have the scientific knowledge you clearly possess. In my case it is the confirmation of experience.

- Can't buy a game -- Hal, 12:29:44 07/29/09 Wed
I'm you're typical "buy a game" kind of guy and over the past ten years I've owned sets of Callaways, Pings, Nike, and Titliest golf clubs with no improvement in my game from set to set. About a year ago I ran across the 1 Iron Golf website and became convinced that to improve my level of play I had to eliminate as many of the variables as possible and work on one swing. At first I bought the Wood/Iron combo set plus the driver but within a month I owned every club that 1 Iron Golf sells.
I spent the first couple of weeks at the range alternating between iron days, fairway wood days, and driver days. Once I got used to the feel of the clubs and replaced all my old bad habits with the 1 Iron Golf swing instruction I started hitting the ball better than I ever thought I could do. Crisp clean ball striking with every iron and wood and 5 to 10 yards farther than I ever hit any golf clubs. I literally kill the driver.
One year ago I was shooting in the mid 90's and today I'm shooting consistently in the mid 70's with an occasional high 60's round. I owe all of this to practice and my 1 Irons. Even though I'll go on record as stating that the 1 Irons are the best clubs ever made and I'll never go back to regular clubs again, you still have to devote time to practice. If you're not willing to do this then take up another sport because I'm living proof that you can't just go out and buy a game.

- Out come of a golf outing -- Lyman (Love these clubs), 05:57:47 08/02/09 Sun
I played a round of golf yesterday. First nine was not so good (46). Very first hole was water and I sailed it in the drink. It was not the clubs fault. It was me all the way. Back nine I shot (41). I would have shot a 39 if I hadn't put another one in the water. Not a fault of the 1 iron. It was my fault again. I can see that after a little more practice chipping that I will be shooting scores in the High 70s. Not bad for a 60 year old.
By the way - side not. I was playing with my wife. She is about my hight. I had her hit the 5 iron, because that's the only club she likes in her old set. Guess what - she drilled it. After she hit the 5 a couple of more times I handed her the 3 iron (I didn't tell her that it was a 3 iron). You guessed it. She drilled it to. Now she is hooked on the 1 irons.

- Fantastic!!! -- Phil, 16:31:55 07/22/09 Wed
Got my new 1-irons yesterday: 3I - LW. Clubs look and feel great and the grips are super. Took them to the range for the first time today and started drilling them from the start. Long, long, long, and straight down the pike. I hit all the irons and gained distance on every one over my old set. 3I carries about 200 yards high in the air and lands soft with little roll. I've got to adjust to the longer distances before I play my first round but I'm expecting some great things from these clubs. I got Mr. Lake's book a few weeks back and have been practicing a single swing with center of stance ball position in my backyard every night to get the hang of it. Because of this the transition was smooth as silk when I got the new clubs.

- 2nd set of 1 Irons -- Ralph, 06:42:54 05/08/09 Fri
I've had my full set of 1 Irons (woods and irons) for two years and have never played better golf in my life. I've gone from a 20 handicap to a 9 handicap during this time and feel like my swing is improving every time I go out. That's pretty good for a 65 year old.
I just ordered a second set that I'm going to keep in my car for road trips while my original set is going to stay at the club.
Thank you 1 Iron Golf for a great set of golf clubs.

David- Fascinated on your idea of wrist putting (from the Newsletter Archive) as many professionals did in the Pre- Jack Era. Have you considered a U-Tube post to demonstrate this? Do it for fun for the rest of us.
By the way.... what is your handicap playing the 1 Iron System?

- The big transition -- Sam, 08:37:45 07/20/09 Mon
In the for-what-it’s-worth department I bought the 5-PW, 3W, 5W and 7W combo and moved over to the 1 Iron system using that set. Nearly every golfer I know says they can't hit the 3 and 4 irons, and I was no exception. However, 11 months later I got up the nerve to order the 3 and 4 irons. I couldn’t have been more surprised.
All the comments in the forum about 3 and 4 iron difficulties just didn't happen to me. What I think happened is by the time I had the new clubs in my hands I was already a true-blue 1 Iron guy, and there was absolutely no temptation to over-swing. Every hit is low and long using that nice easy tempo; just like I do with the 5 – PW.
Perhaps others can benefit by totally ignoring the 3 iron until they get everything down. In my case it took the better part of a year. After that it’s just make that same ‘ol swing that works with every other club.
I couldn’t be more pleased with my clubs and my new favorite club is my 3 iron. I have said to countless playing partners – I wouldn’t trade these clubs for any make or model on the market. And, I have a pass to the Nike store in Beaverton (very tough to arrange.) I may use Nike balls, but 1 Irons are superior to any clubs they sell. Perhaps I’ll tell Tiger the next time I see him.

- Follow Mr. Lake's instructions -- Richard, 17:25:10 07/13/09 Mon
I got my 1 irons three weeks ago (#3 iron through the Lob Wedge). The first few trips to the range were nothing exciting as I could hit the #7 through the wedges fine but had difficulty with the #3 iron through the #6. I was starting to become frustrated and re-read through the playability tips that came with my clubs as well as all of the past newsletters that are available through the website. All I can say is WOW!! If anyone is experiencing trouble with these clubs then you're not following Mr. Lake's instructions precisely. If you read them thoroughly and apply them to your swing you'll be shooting lights out golf.
My #3 and #4 irons are a dream to hit - long and straight with a high trajectory. I haven't seen a fat or thin shot in over a week and all shots feel as smooth as butter coming off the face of the club. Thank you Mr. Lake and 1 Iron Golf for a great set of clubs.
Richard

- Thank you David -- Todd, 08:24:12 07/08/09 Wed
David,
I wanted to thank you for making golf enjoyable again. I'm 41 years old and been golfing for 32 years. In that time I've developed some pretty bad habits that have been difficult to overcome.
I received my 1 Iron set last June and spent a lot of time on the range with them last summer. By the end of the golf season up here in the tundra I was hitting them ok but not real well. I was still short on my irons compared to my old set. This spring things started to come around and now in the last month and a half all I can say is WOW! I'm now hitting the ball consistently and I've gained 10 yards on every iron. The best part is I've never been able to hit any club above a 5 iron, now I can hit the 3 or 4 iron as easily as my PW.
I think the best kept secret is your Driver. I've always been able to hit the Driver long just not anywhere close to straight. I've spent a small fortune on Drivers in the past buying into all of the hype about how they'll help me hit the ball straight. None of them ever did. It did take some time getting used to hitting the Driver from the center of my stance but once I did, again WOW! It makes a huge difference playing your second shot from the middle of the fairway with a short iron instead of punching out from behind a tree.
David, once more thank you for helping to bring enjoyment back to golf for me.
Todd

What a wealth of common sense information on golf, instruction, and equipment. There's more information contained in your newsletters than in any golf book I've ever read. Ive got to say that you've really opened my eyes after twenty years of playing golf.

- Urge to Kill -- Rugga Mather, 13:34:41 04/07/09 Tue
I am the best range player around and I am having a terrible time moving from the range to the course. On the range it is the greatest ,straightest etc. When I go to the course I have the tendency to over swing and then Hook the ball badly. I am looking for the magic band-aid to make the transition to the course. I know this should be easy but after 40 years of conventional golf this has gotten the best of me. Thanks and I look forward to all the help I can receive.

- Driver vs 3 Wood -- Love2Train, 01:06:47 05/16/09 Sat
David,
I have a question for you. I was hoping you could help me out here. Since learning how to use your clubs I have become very very consistent throughout the bag and hit eveyr single club almost dead straight at will. My problem lies with my woods however and it is not a problem of accuracy but distance. I seem to hit my 3 wood the same distance as my driver. I hit them both very well and very straight with slight draw on both, both same ball position center of stance. Same swing and same distance, and it has perplexed me very much. I have tried so much to try to figure out what I might be doing wrong here. I tried teeing it up higher and lower and playing with ball position but nothing so far has worked. Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong here? I am sure the driver should go at least 30 yards further then the 3 wood right? Thanks in advance for your help and I do love your clubs and quality.
