Subject: Fantastic!!!

Got my new 1-irons yesterday: 3I - LW. Clubs look and feel great and the grips are super. Took them to the range for the first time today and started drilling them from the start. Long, long, long, and straight down the pike. I hit all the irons and gained distance on every one over my old set. 3I carries about 200 yards high in the air and lands soft with little roll. I've got to adjust to the longer distances before I play my first round but I'm expecting some great things from these clubs. I got Mr. Lake's book a few weeks back and have been practicing a single swing with center of stance ball position in my backyard every night to get the hang of it. Because of this the transition was smooth as silk when I got the new clubs.

Hi, what is your WTF?
Not that this is really hurting my game or anything, but the 3i really is giving me concern. I can manage decent shots with 5-LW, the 4 is pretty ok, but the 3 never lands further than about 160ish with lots of roll.
But since I have very little reason to pull out the 3 anyway, i'm not too bothered in game situations.

Sean,

I've mentioned this tip on previous posts but I will repeat it here:

You should make a couple of trips to the range taking only your #3 iron with you and leaving the rest of your clubs at home. Concentrate on swinging the club around your body and eliminating any swaying motion from your swing (do not take any other clubs with you as you will be tempted to hit them instead of developing a sound and repetitive iron swing). Do not be discouraged if you hit the first five or ten balls poorly as your unconscious mind/body will be making thousands of minute adjustments after every shot. Pretty soon you will start developing your feel and timing and everything will begin to click. Once it does you will be very pleased with your ball striking and distance. A side benefit is that you never have to take any other irons to the range as you will be using the same swing, set-up, and swing posture that you have developed with your #3 iron with every one of them.
