Subject: identifying a sea skiff

hi there!

Working on rebuilding an old 32' sea skiff. Keeping an eye more towards functionality than restoration, but would still like to find out some specifics about this boat. The identification plate that SHOULD have been on the inside of the engine hatch appears to have been removed at some point in the boat's history, and I can't find any other identification numbers elsewhere on the boat. The closest boats that I have seen in appearance seem to be the 1966 models, but my boat has an aluminum windshield frame, and a flybridge. She is powered by twin 350's, and built out of plywood. Anybody out there have any ideas on the age of the boat and any additional information?

Sometimes they put the Hull numbers on the stringers....Good luck! Unfortunately, the brass serial number plates on the insides of the engine hatches were the only place where those numbers were located in mid-1960 Sea Skiffs of that approximate size. The number on the stringer refers to the boat's gross weight and is there for documentation purposes. 32-Ft Sea Skiffs were made in 1961. 62, 64, 65, 66 and 1967. The others years were 31 Ft., although in 1968 they were not real Sea Skiffs but had lapstrake sides with a sheet plywood bottom. I'm quite sure that your Sea Skiff was not delivered originally with 350 cubic inch engines. The choice was 283s or 327s on 31-32 footers but virtually all the external accessories including the intake and exhaust manifolds will transfer to 1969-1979 era GM 350 Cubic Inch long blocks. That's a common conversion that a lot of people (including me) have done. If you send me a photo of your boat, I can probably help identify the year from available Chris Craft sales brochures.

It actually sounds like you are right on the money, and mine sounds like a '68. it has a bottom that is constructed of sheet ply. I'll see what I can dig up in the way of pictures, and send them along!

Adam I have a 62' 32 sea skiff It is plywood lapstake construction do you have any pictures of yours we could compare?

Hi I am looking for plans for an early 32' Sea-Skiff. i have owned this boat for 28yrs and it has never had engines. We have ripped everything down to the bare hull and are putting it back together in a different fashion, more headroom with a larger main saloon. But would love to look at some plans, Thanks
