Subject: Bottom Planks and Keel

I'm restoring a 1956 22' Sea Skiff- - I have 6 ribs to repair and the planks running next to the keel under the motor are soak in oil- should I replace the ribs first then roll over the boat and repalce the planking- any suggestions on a good resource for planking repair- Joel

Joel, sorry it has taken so long for someone to reply. I know quite a few folks with 22' sea skiffs. I will try to get someone to reply to you a.s.a.p. Thanks for writing. Have you joined our club yet? Would love to have you.

Joel - I have replaced sections of the white oak ribs in the bilge area only. If you need to replace entire ribs this will require steam bending. As far as the garboard strakes are concerned contact Jim Grant in Hartwell, GA
grantswoodenboats@hartcom.net or (706)376-9838 evenings or (706) 376-3441 days. He is experienced with replacing strakes and ribs in lab strake boats. All the best, Ken J.
