Ian,

if the rules are different to what they are at IVDA, I must assume they mean different things. Now I don't think Oxford will be running through their social dance-classes trying to find their best dancers who have never competed, but if they did, i don't see anything wrong with that. If you want to achieve the same as IVDA, USE THE SAME RULE.

Similarly, according to the Warwick website there are *no* dress-restrictions outside of beginners. Don't tell me I should interpret that rule as "wear lounge dress" if it says:
"latin trousers, practice skirts and team competition dress may only be worn by dancers competing in the basic category or above during the day."

I'm just as annoyed as everyone else by people twisting or breaking the rules (and afaik i never have) but these cases are nothing like that. Both of these are very simple and clear rules, and I would expect people to adhere to them, rather than magically knowing that something completely different was intended.

Are you on the Warwick committee? Maybe you are, then you should change the rules so they say what you think they mean. Maybe you're not, in that case, how do you know what they intend??

Robin

PS similarly, if you think xyz-small-uni A-jive should not have to do open A-tango, then the rules should have some provision for that (e.g. SC decides on application).
